Heat Pump By-pass/ two 3-way diverter valves or one with check-valve

I have started the plumbing for by-passing the heat pump but ran into a concern. According to all instructions the check-valve should be at the lowest point of the plumbing. This is not quite possible for me because after the heater the returns then run underground. Will the check-valve work...

Should the heat pump have a by-pass for the water

I have a question on my pool plumbing. Should the heat pump have a by-pass for the water? My concern is that if the heat pump fails [leaks] that I will be unable to run the pump and filter. Is this something I should be concerned with and have it done? Here is a pic of my current set-up.

    High pool filter pressure

Just clean grids and they were very clean. Just started pool back up, on high speed psi was 16 with no media and 17 after I put the earth in. Med Speed is 10 psi and low speed = 4 psi. Both readings with the media in. Grids were clean with just hose. Any thoughts on the grids filling up and...

    High pool filter pressure

After a backwash and new DE media I now have high pressure in the filter within a week. I also use a variable pump which I mainly run on low speeds. I have always been able to run the lowest speeds with no flow problems since I've had this setup. The problem I am having is after a while on the...

Buffalo, NY - Gunite Saltwater Pool Build

Can't seem to find your post, but I thought somewhere you asked about stamped color concrete. My patio below the pool is that and I no longer coat it. It gets way too slick, especially with kids playing. The concrete by my pool is colored with the border stained also it is swirled, I think it...

Buffalo, NY - Gunite Saltwater Pool Build

Great looking build. I also live in Buffalo and have a HeatWave SuperQuiet SQ125. The reason I got a heat pump was because I have solar panels on the house. Being 100% honest I prefer the natural gas heater. It is much faster and much hotter. I really only run the heater in mid May and late Sept...

What wire gauge size for 1.85HP Hayward pump

Just noting that you do not have GFCI CBs for the pumps that current NEC requires. I assume that all three of the CB's need to be GFCI? I guess the money I saved on doing the pump myself will now have to spent on GFCI.

What wire gauge size for 1.85HP Hayward pump

This is what I used on the pump I am now replacing. It was very difficult to wire because of the size.

What wire gauge size for 1.85HP Hayward pump

Thanks; Box has [2] 20amp and [1] 50amp. The 20's must be [1] for each pump and the 50 is for the heat pump. I have enough 10ga4-wire for a whip but I don't want to use it cause it is so thick and hard to work with

What wire gauge size for 1.85HP Hayward pump

I have a Hayward SP3210X15XE 1.85HP pump and need to know what gauge wire I should use. I am making a whip for it running @ 230. I think I read that 230 can have smaller wire size than 115. So is 14/2 good for 230v? Also just in case I ran as 115v should I then use 12/2? Thanks for any and all...

Rewiring a 2-speed Pump to a VS Pump

Again thanks. I do have one more option and that would be to set the new pump to 115V since I already have an outlet. When I rebuilt the pools years ago I think I read 230V was much more efficient and better for the pump motor than 115v and that is why since than I have written off 115V. Would...

Rewiring a 2-speed Pump to a VS Pump

Thanks all for your input. While one of my options is to get an electrician to put a new 230 outlet I think I will try to avoid that because of the cost. My old pump is on it's last legs which is why I am getting a new one. I plan on getting the pump and motor rebuilt so I have a spare. That...

Rewiring a 2-speed Pump to a VS Pump

"Identify the two 240V hot wires" Wouldn't there be three 240 hot wires? The red [low speed], the black [high speed], and the white [common power].

Rewiring a 2-speed Pump to a VS Pump

I used the AutoPilot to control the speed. I use the timer to turn pump on and off it would start in low speed which I used all the time. I would manually select high speed via AutoPilot for when I wanted torun heat pump.

Rewiring a 2-speed Pump to a VS Pump

Here are some pics, I wired this myself six years ago. I attached a four-wire whip with plug to the two-speed pump so I can unplug and bring pump inside for the winter. The plan is to attach a whip to the new pump but even though I only need three wires it will still attach to the 4-wire...
