Can’t seem to get PH lowered

Testing pool water that was just put in a month or so ago when new liner done. Multiple tests have shown PH at 8.2 (maybe higher in that the Taylor safety test only goes to 8.2?) and total alkalinity at 130. Added a gallon of muratic 31.45 -20 Baumé and still the PH remains consistently too...

    A little over/under

I’ve drained some and have the salt down to 4200 and my SWG confirms this avg reading. Should I work to bring it down further or leave it alone? Circupool says it is most effective at 3500 ppm. Is it worth draining and replacing further?

    A little over/under

I kind of like the pump running at lower speed almost constantly as it does a great job of keeping the pool clean. When I ran my single speed Hayward pump 10 hours during the day it always seemed to pick up a lot of debris overnight on the bottom. Now trying to lower the salt

    A little over/under

So I am guessing partial drain and replace to lower the salt level. Of course tray will lower CYA so I’ll need to add that back too.

    A little over/under

As you can see from my latest figures, my salt is a little on the high side, and my CYA (60) is a little under according to the ideal measurements for a salt pool with a SWG. I have my RJ60 down to 20% - and just moved it down another step as my last chlorine test moved up a notch. Running the...

    SLAM started!!

Slam seems to have worked well in a short time. I’ll bring it back to slam level of 12 (it came down by 4 ppm today which was sunny and warm). Check it in the morning to see if an exit is possible.

    SLAM started!!

Indeed you can. Pump is running pretty strong so the pic has a lot of distortion from the water disturbed on the surface. Water is VERY clear at this point. I think it’s working!!!

    SLAM started!!

we tout this Am to find - FC 9 CC .5 This morning pool water very clear with some all what I would presume to be dead algae patches which were easily vacuumed. Relabeled FC back to 12 and will check again tonight to see if I can get an overnight test done. So far so good!

    SLAM started!!

Pool (algae?) is EATING chlorine. Took another reading about an hour ago - in 3 hours it destroyed 3 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine ?. I am gonna have to look for some more tomorrow. I only have two gallons left. I wish I could use the SWCG to assist. It is more than double capacity for the...

    SLAM started!!

First one was after I had initially put 3 gal of 10% LC in. When I opened the cover I just wanted to put it back. The water was literally black, red and a little green. Uuuugly! It’s coming back!

    SLAM started!!

Just started a SLAM with my pool open for just over two days. Water looks cloudy but most of the organically are gone from the bottom/walls. Just got the chemistry within tolerance using the TL100 and it shows: FC 12 I PH 7.2 TA 70 CYA 30 Salt 4600 Just added 3 gal to get the fc at 12 Will...

    New to self testing

Ok. Pool cover removed. Very murky water. Lots of dirt/algae? On the bottom. Vacuumed to waste. Added 3 gal of 10% liquid chlorine over the course of 2 hours. Fc is only at 2. Will have to go source Muriatic acid and CYA tomorrow. All numbers otherwise remained the same as yesterday’s test.

    New to self testing

Thanks guys. I was wondering about that. I took the sample about a foot and a half under the surface but agree that can be misleading as a representative sample. Will get the vacuuming done and get some circulation going

    New to self testing

Ok guys. Gonna crack the cover on the pool tomorrow afternoon. Took some tests today to figure out a baseline. Results: Fc 0 PH. 8.2 TA 90 CYA. 20 Salt. 600 The pool is not yet open but I am actively going to start that process tomorrow. I’ll remove the cover and vacuum to waste to get the...

Steps in Converting to a SWG pool

VS is shorthand for Variable Speed - refers to a pump which is able to be programmed to run at different speeds throughout the day or night. There are internal controls within the pump that can vary the pump speed and therefore the flow to the pool so you can turn over more or less water during...

Steps in Converting to a SWG pool

As stated earlier, if your budget can handle it, buying the SWG and a VS pump together is a long term economic winner especially if you choose a combo where they are discounted regularly. Just bought a Circupool VS pump and SWG myself and plan on it paying off in electric and chlorine expense.

    Vertical or horizontal?

No No, the SWCG! I am going to soon be finishing up on the plumbing changes for my new Circupool 2hp VS pump and RJ60 SWCG. It looks like I’ll have enough room to go either horizontal or vertical with the salt cell, and the instructions indicate either way is ok. Question is, is there a...

    When to open in Michigan

In the past, i’ve based my opening more on how the surroundings are shedding their flowers, etc. than what the temps were. I used to have quite a few flowering trees that were obnoxious about dumping petals into the water and caused constant cleanup. I’ve since done away with all but one...

To open or not to open

The pool is currently in hibernation given the relatively cold temps of South Central PA (snowed a bit yesterday). I am in the process of obtaining and will be installing a new VS pump and SWCG, but need to do some re-plumbing/electrical/construction (for someplace to hand the SWCG controller)...

Replacement pump and adding a SWG

Decided to return the RJ45 and get the RJ60 instead to give me more possible capacity and easier time on the SWG.

    Questions on SWG and pump

I went to HD today in Mechanicsburg PA and they did have liquid chlorine with a date of 20070. I bought 3 boxes of three gallons. They had 41 bottles according to the website.
