Sun shade for Jandy VS controller

Nice idea and I'll keep it in mind if nothing else comes up. They're about 2-3 times as wide and deep as I was looking for. The main reason I wanted to find something is that in Jandy's manual it suggests to avoid direct sun as it will darken the display over time. So that's really all I was...

Sun shade for Jandy VS controller

Oh, WOW, very nice! Alas, a bit over the top for what I am looking for. :) We have a gated enclosure for the equipment and the newly-installed heat pump, so I don't want anything blocking that enclosure from plenty of heat for the heat pump.

Sun shade for Jandy VS controller

I'd like to get a sun shade to keep direct sun off my newly installed Jandy JEP-R controller. For the life of me I can't seem to find anything on the internet and I think I just don't know what to search for. Something like white-painted sheet-metal or weather-safe plastic is just fine...

Updated -- Passive solar heating system - real-life experience? -- Heat Pump installed

I thought I would follow up on my own post, after we got a heating solution. It turns out, a neighbor has a pool maintenance business and we worked with him to figure out how best to extend our swim season. The end answer? A Hayward 140K BTU heat-pump. The story? We worked with a...

Updated -- Passive solar heating system - real-life experience? -- Heat Pump installed

We do have a (manual) bubble cover. It can stay on most of the day. We usually swim in the afternoons anyway when it's stupid hot out, as Sacramento tends to be all summer. So I don't mind covering it up each day and uncovering to swim. Based on other people's responses, I expect that...

Updated -- Passive solar heating system - real-life experience? -- Heat Pump installed

I think it's because it uses no extra energy (other than pumping). Eg, natural gas or electricity (heat pump or water heating).

Updated -- Passive solar heating system - real-life experience? -- Heat Pump installed

Water is pumped into solar collectors on the roof, and back into the pool. A collector supposedly adds about 3-5 degrees of warmth to the water as it passes through.

Updated -- Passive solar heating system - real-life experience? -- Heat Pump installed

My wife and I have gotten an estimate to add passive solar heating to our pool (15x36 in-ground, avg 48" deep) in Sacramento, CA. Our hope is not to swim year-round, but to add a few months to the time it's usable. Our pool is situated next to a pavilion that blocks direct sun until around...

    Solar blanket with pressure-side cleaner

I figured that much out... But once in awhile (when I'm observing it), the wheels will turn weakly for awhile and the Polaris just basically sits there. The backup valve starts jetting and moving it around. Rinse, repeat. Then it "decides" to start working OK and runs along the pool just...

    Solar blanket with pressure-side cleaner

Not knowing any better, I leave the sweep in the water almost all the time, so it sweeps each day from ~12AM to ~4AM. (These are the times and setup that was in place when I bought the house.) I'm pondering a Dolphin cleaner now, though. The Polaris seems to occasionally have fits where the...

    Solar blanket with pressure-side cleaner

Anyone have a solar blanket with a Polaris type pressure-side cleaner in action? I was thinking to add a blanket to capture/retain some warmth in our Sacramento summers. The pool gets shade roughly 1/3 of the daylight hours from structures and trees, so I think we could use a couple more...

    New pool owner

Thank you! I will indeed read through these resources when time permits. We are still going through the motions of getting everything unpacked and set up to our liking.

    New pool owner

Hi, all... joining from Sacramento. This is my first-ever pool, a pre-existing pool on the property of the house my wife and I just bought. I'm a DIY type first and foremost, so I like to learn what I can and fix it myself if reasonably possible. The pool is a 32x16 freshwater, AmeriBrite...
