Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Everyone figured out the magic that is liquid chlorine! Thankfully I was able to order 10 bottles from a Menard's in OH and my girlfriend's sister lives near the store. She's coming up Wednesday anyways to visit so I did a store pickup and she'll just pick it up for me. That should last me...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I'm in the very NW corner of PA near the OH border. The closest Ace hardware is in OH as far as I can tell, if things get really bad I could drive out there.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Absolutely no pool chlorine at 3 different Walmarts in NW PA (pucks or liquid). There are bags of shock but they are extremely overpriced. I haven't seen any at Home Depot or Lowes either. I have a month supply of a mixture of 4 bottles of 12.5 and gallon jugs of regular bleach, but I'm...

Clear water ... until I brush!

I pick up 7-8 bottles of the Pool Essentials every 2 weeks when I go grocery shopping and use about 1/2 a bottle a day. One tip - check the label to make sure you're getting the "freshest" chlorine based on the born on date. Easy way on the Pool Essentials bottles is to check the 3 digit date...

    Losing Confidence In Slam Process

I second this, it's a spot that you may not check often especially when you brush the sides of the pool

    What a difference TFP makes!

Once the water got pretty clear I brushed and vacuumed again and then popped in the new filter. Overnight it made it super clear! I think we're almost ready to swim  We're leaving the solar cover on for a few days to soak up the heat we'll be getting this weekend, and either Monday or...

    New to inground pools

Also is this just a PVC pipe hose? Primered PVC only takes about 20 mins to seal after applying bonding cement, it should be a 30-45 min fix if you want to just cut it and use 2 couplings. Make sure they're pressure rated not normal house plumbing! Pressure rated PVC couplings are slightly...

    Pond Pool

If all else fails you could bottle it up and sell it to some gullible people as "raw water" for $5 a pop! :laughblue:

    Pond Pool

I often wonder how well a pool store would do if they just used TFP's methods. Without selling a bunch of chemicals and only the basic things (equipment, filters, chlorine, CYA etc) and telling people just to use liquid chlorine would they even make money? ? Especially when people would realize...

    Doheny's pumps

Thanks! It's hard to find reviews on them but I can tell you that after 4 full days of running the pump my pool is way clearer than what it was when I took the cover off. It has to be moving lots of water, and when I put some stabilizer in an old tied off shirt near the jet it was moving pretty...

    Pond Pool

I second, third, and fourth the advice that you're getting here. As far as a pool store goes, in my experience they might think they're being helpful but 99% of the time they want to sell products. The first pool guy we had come out to our swampy pool just dumped 2 bottles of chlorine and 2...

    What a difference TFP makes!

When I closed it, the pump had died so I had to drain it with a submersible pool cover pump. But I drained it below the jets, took the jet covers off and then put a Shop Vac in the return line (using the exhaust port) and blew them out. I then put on the caps. I didn't use antifreeze though. I...

    Doheny's pumps

After the swim season ended last year my old Hayward pump died, so I did some looking around and ended up buying a Doheny's #2716 1HP inground pump. After it arrived, I realized I needed to reduce the fitting down from 2in to 1.5 and asked around on Reddit for advice on it (turned out to be a...

    What a difference TFP makes!

Last year, when I found TFP as a new pool owner (after inheriting a swamp) I had already gone to the pool store twice and dumped all kinds of wasted money and chems into it. A year ago today my pool was still pretty green and it wouldn't be until late June until we got it completely clear. Now...

    SLAM vs. the WEATHER

Wow no markings on the filter at all? That's tough then. Do you mean no markings on the actual unit or the cartridge filter itself? If there's nothing on the unit, maybe the cartridge has some model numbers we can work with to find a replacement

    Where to start??

Holy cow, you're on well water and you comfortable draining and refilling your pool? Is your well an underground lake? :) I just say that because I have a shallow well and the best I can do is top it off a few inches if needed, especially in the summer.

    SLAM vs. the WEATHER

I have a cartridge filter too, if you're planning on getting a new cartridge for the season you might consider using a pressure washer to clean the old cartridge as you SLAM. I did that last year when I opened my "swamp" as I had to use 2 cartridges in tandem as I was running the pump 24 hours...

Should I drain and start fresh with my pool?

When you've got the pool clear you should also power wash that concrete, it'll make the pool area look great! Also get some concrete caulking into that one crack so it doesn't get worse when the winter hits. All you need is some chlorine, get the solids out of the pool and run that pump/filter.

Brand new pool with a black algae problem

I second Yippee's post - the TF-100 has a ton of reagents that you'll find useful. You're definitely going to need the R-0870 and R-0871 reagents but the others will come in handy once you're just maintaining. TF-100 Test Kit Think of the money you pay your pool service, you're saving a heck...

Drain Water From Pool - Cartridge Filter

Do you have somewhere you can drain the water legally and safely? You could install a PVC ball valve and a tee and route plumbing somewhere else. I live in the country and can drain it into my yard so that solution works for me.

    WOOHOO! We're open!

I read in your first post that the pool boy put some stuff in the skimmer basket. In the future I'd avoid doing that if it was chlorine - putting shock or trichlor tablets directly in the skimmer basket can wear away at the pump parts and make the skimmer basket brittle. If it's DE powder go for...

    worst pool opening yet

For me the TF-100 was the way to go, a lot of great testing supplies and you can reorder any reagents for a fair price and decent shipping time. I was intimidated at first but I found the TF-100 much easier to use than those test strips or any of the stuff you buy in the stores.

    Swamp Fever

Woohoo! I told you, once you start seeing that bottom it motivates you to the finish line. Great job! Now use this as a lesson on properly closing your pool, so your openings are a breeze. Then you can spend a couple hours opening and a bunch of hours drinking poolside ?

    Swamp Fever

Jerseyrails, I was in almost your exact situation last year. Bought a house with a pool that was negelcted for years. Hired a pool guy to come out, he dumped in chlorine and algaecide at the same time (which is a waste) and told me to run the pump. When this obviously didn't work, I went to a...
