    How much acid?

Many thanks... I will adopt that plan. However; One thing that's really got me confused though, if my TA level is 30, PoolMath says to go from 7.8 (or even 8.2 since 7.8 is the upper end of my test) to 7.2 should be about 500mL. Now, pool guy's reading for my TA was 125. If I use TA 125 in...

    How much acid?

I've been lowering it to initiate a second SLAM for a somewhat persistent algae problem. Yes, water feature; it is two small waterfalls, that would be aerating quite a bit of water. Given that, what do I need to look out for? Will I be constantly battling pH and TA levels? I'll do a bit of...

    How much acid?

Hi, Wondering how frequently I should be expecting to add acid to maintain pH? About a week and a half ago, I had a reading of 7 after pool guy dumped a bunch of acid in the pool (don't know how much exactly). Yesterday, back up at or over 7.8 (the limit of my test). I've had to add 1.2L...

brushing; not often I guess - I've only done that to attack the algae problem. circulation - how would I know that? pool has 3 return jets, and one of them is quite near to problem.

hmm... not sure I'm winning this battle I initiated the SLAM about 3 weeks ago now. Initially, the algea was fairly prominent localised patch, and it did start to clean up over several days. But it never quite went away... the pool is pebblecrete and it seemed like algae was left hiding in the...

ok, now I'm totally confused... So pool guy comes around and I explain what I'm doing and why, all good... my plan is to take over maintenance, but retain them for a little longer until I'm comfortable. I explained that I have a test kit, and my CYA reading was very low so added stabiliser to...

Well I let FC drop to 10 over the past couple of days However, still a very faint green section of algea. Even after daily scrubbing, it's still faintly there - how long does it normally take to eradicate it completely? I've dropped in a little more bleach to return FC to 12, I'll keep up the...

Today Morning: FC: 13.5, CC: 0 Evening: FC 12.5, CC: 0 (cloudy day) Taking a second look at the algea in the daylight, it's ever so faintly hanging about, so I may keep it up a couple more days.

Tonight: FC: 14.5 (down 3, with SWG off and a bright, sunny day) CC: 0 Algea has cleared up nicely, so at this stage, happy to let it fall to maintenance levels. I'll keep reporting numbers, it might be useful for other newbies.

This morning; FC: 17.5 - unchanged CC: 0 Algea is looking all but gone, so it's looking great. At this point, should I continue to maintain FC levels another day or two, or call it done and allow it to return to normal levels?

Tonight: FC: 17.5 CC: 0 Interesting, FC went up by 1 - was not expecting that; but now that I think of it, the Chlorinator was on today - should that be off? Thanks; Gave the algea a scrub, and it's looking better - but that stuff is surprisingly subborn in my pebblecrete pool.

This morning: CF: 16.5 CC: 0 I'll assume I should not add more chlorine at this stage, since I overshot a bit (was targetting 12). Algea is still visible

I have a sand filter (I think) - a big plastic sphere with a multi-way valve on top. I added the first lot in a sock dropped into the skimmer; it was all gone within a few hours. The second lot I dropped in front of a return jet. As of now; CYA is now registering pretty close to 30 now, and...

Well, added the 525g CYA and re-tested after 24 hours, still on the low side, but notably better. My guess is it's about 20 now. Tonight, I'll drop pH to 7.2, drop another 525g of CYA, and retest tomorrow before I start.

Thanks aussieta... sent the Mrs to bunnings, she got a lot of funny looks cleaning out the shelves of bleach. One well meaning shopper said she was crazy and pointed her to pool shock (cal-hypo). Now that I look on bunnings website, I can see liquid chlorine available in 15L for way cheaper...

Ok thanks again. I've dropped 525g CYA into the filter tonight, which should be +10ppm according to poolmath, I'll report where I'm at in 24 hours.

Ok, thanks plain bleach it is. Since my CYA level registered low, would you recommend raising it to at least 30 before starting? Note: my kit is accurate from 30-100ppm, but Im guessing it's probably way below that - I could quite clearly see the black dot . Being the first time I ran the...

Thanks Texas Splash, I'm wondering if I can use Calcium Hypochloride for the SLAM, since CH is also a bit low, or stick to bleach?

Hi, Never owned a pool before, and since purchasing the home 12 months ago, the pool has been maintained on a monthly schedule by a local pool shop. At this stage for me, it's all quite intimidating but I've done my best to read up and collect as much information as I can. So, I'm looking for...
