Best pool cleaner for heavier debris?

I've been looking at the Pool Blaster Max. That might help with the pile of debris that collects at the very bottom of the pool and my Polaris could continue to limp along for awhile

Best pool cleaner for heavier debris?

5 years after my last post about my circa 2011 Polaris 280, it's finally going belly up on us. We've replaced parts as they fail but at this point we can't figure out the problem. The cleaner floats around the pool barely touching the bottom, at only 24 rpm. Takes about 8-10 hours to...

Pool tech says I don't need skimmer float valves. But why?

You mean the two pipes with the red valve handles in the open position? One is marked SKIM and the other MD (ie main drain I assume)

Here it is. What does it tell you?

Pool tech says I don't need skimmer float valves. But why?

Ah, that helps. Leaves are not an issue here. Since our pool equipment is downhill from the pool I doubt it would ever run dry anyway.

Pool tech says I don't need skimmer float valves. But why?

He was here to troubleshoot a leak (it was the heater) and while assessing the rest of the pool he removed the skimmer float valves, saying the pool would probably operate better without them. I guess I should have asked then, but I was so focused on the leak situation I didn't think to. Can...

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

My son might be able to do this. He's good at figuring stuff out, unlike me! Thanks

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

Does this photo help? I think the water may be coming from the filter housing.

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

We are above freezing now. 40 degrees and rising with no freezing temps in the forecast . The worst is over. I just want to get the water to stop flowing. YES the pool is above the equipment .

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

Can someone answer this: If the pool level gets below the skimmers will the water stop flowing out of the Chlorinator? If that is the case, we can wait until the new cover arrives. I am just not comfortable disconnecting hoses.

All the red valves in the photos I posted are in the CLOSED position.

If I disconnect the hose doesn't that leave a hole for water to come out? I am not at all handy.

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

The chlorinator is in the foreground in the second pic. Water leaking seems to be slowing. I am hoping it will stop when pool level drops below skimmers. Is that correct? Luckily the freeze is ending today and temp is already up to 40 so shutting down the pool won't hurt it.

    Help! Chlorinator lid broke off!

We had a few days of freezing temps here and even though I kept the pump running 24/7, the plastic lid to our Pentair 300 Chlorinator tower popped off and there's a chunk of plastic missing so it won't go back on. I only found out because i noticed the pool water level dropping. I've shut down...

'Dishing' around return jet (pics added!)

I hope you are right about that. I feel like we would have noticed it before now but I guess it's possible we didn't until the scale around it caught our attention, maybe. Thanks!

But none of the other jets look like that. They are all perfectly flat. The pool was plastered with gray color in 2011. It's faded a lot in areas so that's what we thought the white was. Our pool has run a high pH ever since I switched to liquid chlorine several years ago. Is that what is...

'Dishing' around return jet (pics added!)

I need advice! A month ago we noticed a symmetrical concave area around one of the return jets, about the size of a dinner plate, where it's sinking in slightly (1/2" or less). The concrete is not cracked but there is a white line around the perimeter where the dishing starts. Does anyone know...

Can I leave Polaris 280 in pool all winter?

That's promising news! the debris collects at the deepest point of the pool, for the most part, so it won't need to reach to the far corners. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks

Can I leave Polaris 280 in pool all winter?

I'd much rather pull it up out to empty than put my hand in to connect it every time I want to run it. Which is why it never got done during winter before

Can I leave Polaris 280 in pool all winter?

I don't 'close' my pool in the Northeastern US sense. I add a lot of bleach, turn off the heater and run the pump about 2 hours a day all winter. The lowest the pool water temp gets is about 45 degrees. My pool (despite an automatic cover) gets a lot of pine needles and worms during the winter...

pH keeps creeping up and can't keep chlorine level up

I downloaded the PoolMath app and will be using it. Here in Portland, I don't close like you do in the NE. We don't hard freeze. So in Oct I just put in a ton of bleach and turn off everything. Worked well this year. Pool was only slightly cloudy when I powered up in late May. The frequent...

pH keeps creeping up and can't keep chlorine level up

Thank you! I still need to find a long term solution to obtaining 10% bleach without long drives in traffic. I went to the pool store today to replenish my re-agent supply and asked if they stock it. Of course not. He recommended Cal-Hypo, which I am still considering going back to just for...
