First time cleaning filter on pool

As a pool guy that cleans multiple filters every week, I'm not a big fan of Non-DE Cartridge filters. It takes a lot of water and time to clean them well. If you can, I recommend using Pleatco Filter Wash. It is probably very similar to a laundry detergent, but it appears to not have a lot of...

White flakes in pool from SWG / Phosphates : YouTube Video

Thanks for your input. Very informative. So I guess the calcium type could be most related to the fill water. Your instance of tile cleaning is rare as to introduce calcium sulfate into the water it would seem. I'm no chemist but it sounds from reading that article that phosphate scaling...

White flakes in pool from SWG / Phosphates : YouTube Video

Thanks for your insight. Would you always consider those white flakes to be "scaling" of some sort? I hopefully edited your post above correctly. I assume you meant to put High in there, yes? I have done the acid test many times over the years and it always Fizzles like Alka Seltzer, so...

White flakes in pool from SWG / Phosphates : YouTube Video

Re: White flakes in pool from SWG : YouTube Video In the article I post a link to above it says this... "The phosphate connection So, what is going on when phosphate levels climb in a salt pool? We need to look to the industrial uses of orthophosphate in water treatment. First of all it is...

White flakes in pool from SWG / Phosphates : YouTube Video

I would really like to know the exact cause of the white flakes that are produced by the SWG. I have 40 salt pools on my route and only 2 (this year) got some of the flakes. Why do some pools with SWG produce them and other not? And I do a very good job of keeping the water LSI balanced. I...

QuadDE Filter Cartridges: Needs V or U shaped spacers between each pleat

I would like to recommend to Pentair that they redesign the cartridges that they put in the QuadDE filters. I have over 20 fairly new QuadDE filters on my pool route. What I am finding is that the rings they use to hold the pleats apart are not even lasting the first year. And within a...

Stenner pump for chlorine. Help with sizing and install ideas

The 100 PSI pump requires the check valve. That's what matters.

Stenner pump for chlorine. Help with sizing and install ideas

Stenner does not recommend the 100psi version for swimming pool application, just so others know in the future. And 100psi versions are not allowed in commercial swimming pool applications. The check valve assurance is unjustified as propgated by some here.

    Jandy TruClear

This is a dog's pool only? Pretty nice of the owner to keep the pool at 90 for his dogs. Your not sure of the exact type("some sort") of "nasties"? Clean the filter. Determine your CC, and super chlorinate as needed.

    Jandy TruClear

I'd like to offer suggestion but would need way more info. How are you determining your salt level? What is the pool water temp? What is the %? What is the exact CYA? How big the pool? All the other chemistry? What do you mean you are losing chlorine? How many hours run time and speed?

450 CH should not make that much difference, especially in one day. I have a 2 pools with CH that high and TruClear that I installed, and they are fine. What is your complete chemistry test results?

Union fitting to make Pentair IntelliChlor Dummy Cell

You are probably correct. I was just thinking/hoping that maybe off chance someone here had ran into a brand of union that was a match. For all I know, maybe the end on the eBay one is not a "perfect" match and the threads or sizing could actually compromise the existing Pentair nut if...

Union fitting to make Pentair IntelliChlor Dummy Cell

Re: Union fitting to make Dummy Cell I think you might not understand what I'm after. I need the side of a union that is a match to what is on the Pentair Salt Cell itself, the male threaded side, not the female threaded side. I want to make a few of my own dummy cells, not pay the $40+...

Maybe some knows a good online source for Union fittings that match the ends of the IntelliChlor cell, so you can make your own dummy cell?

Langelier and Calcite Saturation Indices (LSI and CSI)

Yeah I remember reading the Pool Forum before finding TFP, but haven't been there in awhile and now I see it looks like it is locked. But did not know of these relationships. Reading more here a found link here to an article that Aqua Magazine did which says "Lowry also cites chemist Ben...

Langelier and Calcite Saturation Indices (LSI and CSI)

Well not necessarily in "The Industry" I seem to be around. Pool guys have had the material from Robert Lowry which has taught the CYA/FC correlation long before the TFP started teaching this concept. You can find his detailed material from ipssa or his personal website at...

Langelier and Calcite Saturation Indices (LSI and CSI)

OK so I ran into a Taylor rep at the pool supply store this week and asked him about the water wheel. He said the Taylor water wheel calculates Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) and pointed me to page 48 in the recent instruction booklet that comes with the complete test kits. So I guess we are...

Pulled the SWG Trigger !!! Pentair IC 60 on the way :)

Start putting in the salt now even before the cell is installed. Turn the cell on only after the salt is fully dissolved and at the correct ppm. If possible put in the purest salt you can buy. Use the Taylor test with a Speedstir to determine your salt level

I had to look and your right, it is there on the lid... having a dumb moment here . I haven't felt a need to look at the testing procedure panel on the test kits lid in way too many years. I just started doing it with the 25ml version, memorized that, and never read the panel again...

Hey JoyfulNoise, I think you might copy/paste this response. You recently enlightened me to this 10ml test which I like very much. But left out one important part initially when you first told me about it. You need to add to your copy/paste what you do after counting ALL drops of R-0012...
