    Low pH confusion

No, just regular bleach. The numbers do look good, I suppose I'll let them be. Just seems odd that ph is behaving this way.

    Low pH confusion

Howdy all, Before I get started, here are my latest test results: FC: 8.5 CC: 0 pH: 7.5 CH: 300 TA: 100 CYA: 40 Temp: 49 CSI: -0.33 Bottom line up front, I'm a bit confused about how low my pH is given my TA measurements, despite two 1 pound adds of soda ash over the course of three weeks or...

    Pump anti freeze feature Question

My VS pump turns on full speed when the temperature gets too low. I was wondering if in your (or anyone's) experience, is low speed (50%) probably sufficient protection against freezing temperatures? I mean, obviously that depends on the temperature, but here in Texas we're usually only down in...

Thanks for the reply Donldson. That does make sense. I'll keep that tucked away in my back pocket!

    CYA loss?

So I've been lurking for a while, I feel like I have pretty good control of my chemistry. That being said, I have the most difficulty with CYA. I feel like it's really hard to "pin down" a solid measurement using the TF-100 kit. My pool has been riding at what I'm pretty sure was 40-50 CYA for a...

Haha, can't you see my high-speed, mobility model toward the back? Or perhaps that's what you were referring to.

My small piece of paradise... in the works.

Hey all, just wanted to share my pool and thank the community once again for helping me to take control of my own chemistry! I had to stand up on my backyard fence to get these, lol. You'll see that I've surrounded my pool with colorado river rock. It's a bit bland for now, but I vowed to have...

    TF-100 kit TA test

Hey all, Just a quick question about testing TA with the TF-100 kit. I notice at drop 7 of R-0009, the solution is "not green" and is this sort of very light red-but-mostly-clear hue, and then the next drop turns it into a fiery red. The instructions say when it "turns red" you're done, but I...

How much CYA does a typical 3" (8oz) Trichlor puck add?

For some reason I had trouble asking Pool Math that very question. Thanks for breaking it down for me!

How much CYA does a typical 3" (8oz) Trichlor puck add?

Hey all, After several CYA tests to make sure I wasn't crazy, I've determined my CYA is pretty low, around the 20-30 range. Rest of the readings, because I know you guys will always ask: FC: 6 CC: 0 pH: 7.5 TA: 80 CH: 300 CYA: Call it 30 I've been using tabs to save on bleach and bring my CYA...

I goofed up with new plaster. Options?

FC: 5.5 CC: 0 TA: 70 CH: 300 CYA: 30 pH: 7.5 Sorry. Pretty ideal chemistry, bringing CYA up for the summer.

I goofed up with new plaster. Options?

So, I'm slightly ashamed to say this, but I kinda goofed up with my new plaster. The plaster is about 9 weeks old, and I can list all sorts of excuses, but the skinny of it is I didn't brush it enough while it was curing. Somehow the urgency from the PB to brush it was lost on me, or perhaps...

Testing Chlorine w Taylor Test Kit

I see, and I apologize, I don't want to propagate poor practices. So does that mean the last drop counts when you're calculating the concentration? I believe the answer is no on that one, but I want to be sure. Thanks![/COLOR]

Complete newbie with brand new pool. Please help me get started!

For cleaning out those cartridges, a high pressure hose nozzle would be best. You don't need anything fancy, I think Lowes sells them for under $3. Something like this:

Complete newbie with brand new pool. Please help me get started!

I was right there with you. I don't want to instill any sense of urgency, and it's a huge pain for 8-5 types (with kids, lol), but I highly recommend trying to bite the bullet and brushing it at least twice a day. If you're on stay-cation I would even recommend three times a day if possible.

Complete newbie with brand new pool. Please help me get started!

I'm a newbie myself, but let me give you some of my lessons learned: Brush brush brush. I know that's not your question, but when they say "plaster looks best when brushed at least twice a day," they really mean "your plaster will develop unsightly dull spots if you don't brush it AT LEAST...

    How long to lower TA?

Inserting myself to ask my own question... what is the mechanic that actually reduces TA? Is it the adding of the acid, or is it the rise in pH that consumes TA? Edit: Disregard, says it right here in the ole trusty dusty Pool School: "It is actually the acid which lowers TA. Adding acid...

Testing Chlorine w Taylor Test Kit

I don't know if this is "wrong" per se, but when I use 10 mL and the solution is darn near clear but just a tinge of the slightest bit of pink, to me that's "+" and not quite enough to call it "+ 0.5" Edit: I still put the last drop in to turn it completely clear and make sure my eyes aren't...

pH dropped to 6.8, do I need immediate action?

Yeah, I guess there were a few spots where some of the dust had accumulated that hardened. The PB e-mailed me back today and told me they did indeed dump 1/4 gallon of acid on the dull spots to try and scrub them out a bit. Would have been nice to know, I'm usually at work when these things...

    TF-100 and the CYA test

Thanks all, I know bleach is the recommended chlorine agent, but it almost sounds like if I want to bring up CYA gradually before summer, I can save some bleach and put some tabs in my chlorinator. The pool store suckered me into a huge bucket of them before I saw the TFP light. I might as well...
