CYA level isn’t showing at all

Hello guys, I am late opening my pool this year and have been having trouble keeping my chlorine level up. So, after a couple days I checked my CYA level and it is reading 0. I did loose a good bit of water over winter, but can’t believe I’m getting a 0 reading. My CYA reagent I bought was at...

    Chlorine/bleach availability and price

When I did start up, my CH was just over 200. I haven’t checked it since because I thought with a vinyl pool it wasn’t as important as the other chems. I guess I was looking more for a cheaper cost for chlorine more so than availability. This COVID has all the cleaning supplies up in price

    Chlorine/bleach availability and price

Hi everybody, just throwing this out there and asking if anyone is having trouble purchasing liquid chlorine and/or bleach. I bought up 8 gal of Walmart 10% early in the season and they have since sold out. I was told nothing available on the horizon. So figured I would get GreatValue bleach...

    Opened late, but Crystal clear

I think the CYA was around 40 but not 100% sure. I know it was very high before I changed the liner last year. I need more reagents to test CYA along with chlorine too

    Opened late, but Crystal clear

Got a late start this yr due to the cold and rainy month of May. I was worried the water would be a swamp but was crystal. Her is my problem. I forgot to order new reagents from TFT, so can not test right now. We are leaving tomorrow evening for the weekend. What amount of 10% chlorine should...

    New liner installed

Thank you Marty. I got home and walked past the pool and I just want to say the water is like crystal. It has such a bright sparkle to it. Gives this old guy a big smile .

    Test kit question.........

I use the K-2006 kit along with the speed stir and that’s all I need. The salt testing additions are if you are using a SWG I guess the ph meter may be nice but that is an easy test with the K 2006

    New liner installed

Stabilizer and Chlorine put in this morning before work. Will recheck levels this evening. My TA is at 50, isn’t that a bit low or should I just keep an eye on it and PH for the time being?

    New liner installed

My pump has been on for past 24 hrs and all seems well. I was wondering if I could use liquid stabilizer to get it into the pool faster. Also not sure what level to shoot for, 40 or 50 ? Last summer it ran high due to pool shop and switching from baqucil. Please advise. Pool math says to...

    New liner installed

Hello again, my first post of 2018. As the title states we had to install a new liner and the pool is almost full. I just used city water to fill and I’m probably not going to be able to install pump for at least two days from now. So I’ll be asking some questions soon about water testing and...

    Pea gravel

Hi, welcome to TFP! What would worry me is that pea gravel never really compacts. I have never seen the foam panels that people put under the liner, I have always used sand or sand vermiculite mixture. I guess the only way I would even consider leaving the gravel is cover it with a good layer...

help me help my friend. Sulfate

Thanks for the quick response. I know that he uses all dry Chems for ph+/- and same for alk up or down. I don't know if the item he uses is dry acid or something else for ph- but I doubt he even knows

help me help my friend. Sulfate

I've been telling my friend at work that I found this site and how much it helped me get my pool looking great. He has been having trouble all summer and asked if I could bring my test kit to work and he would bring in a sample for me to test. He just told me that the pool shop told him that...

Just bought a house with a pool

Welcome to TFP buying a test kit is the beginning of your Freedom from paying big $ at the pool store. They will have you add stuff you do not need. The test kit seems like an unwanted expense at this time but it is really cheaper than listening to the "song and dance" info you will get there...

Set up pool, plugged in pump, nothing

Welcome to TFP! The thing on the end of the pump cord is a GFI (ground fault interrupter). It is there to protect the pump and the people around the pool from getting a jolt. Did you try pushing the reset button with it plugged into the outlet? Not sure, but it may need power for it to reset...

    chlorine Question

Look up descriptions and abbreviations. CC is what you want to keep low, I think of it as chlorine that has no working value left in it. It is all used up fighting the organics in your pool. The more critters in your pool the faster your FC drops and your CC goes up. Low CC is a good sign...

    chlorine Question

No, that's good CC at 0 to .5 is great.
  20. Tim Bish

    chlorine Question

Nope. Your doing it right. If the water stays clear then you have no CC. I use the 10 ml sample to save reagent, but remember to count the drops to clear the sample and then multiply by .5 this is your FC. THEN THE 5 drops are to check your CC and 0 pink is gooooood!
  21. Tim Bish

CC increases, FC drops every time I shock

You stated your cya was at 20. That may not be enough to buffer the FC and the sun is eating it up.

Quick question on PH and TA

Thanks to both of you. I still can't get over how crystal clear the water is. NEVER was it this clear on Baquacil.

Quick question on PH and TA

My PH is creeping up, not out of range yet, but went from 7.4 to 7.7 after about a week or so. My TA is right at 100. Should I adjust the PH only with MA and let that bring my TA down too. The only reason I ask is if you look at the chart for Chem levels for vinyl the TA top end of scale is 90...

Pool Newb Trying to Follow the TFP Rules

Brock627. The gal.of water for a 18'x48" is 7600. Your signature has it a little short of that, so make sure your using the right amount when using "pool math". You don't want to fall short of dosing the pool

Water still clear, and it's easy

Hey everybody. Just wanted to say how glad I am to find this site and then actually join this group. I didn't think I could believe that a person could take care of maintaining great looking water with just some stuff from mainly a grocery store. I switched from baquacil after using it in two...

    SLAM is over! For now.

I took the steps apart completely and removed the plugs, and hosed the sand out while I hung the sides inverted and sprayed up inside the side panels. It was a very soaking experience for sure. After I got all the sand out I took half a gal of bleach and put in each side and sloshed it around...

    SLAM is over! For now.

Thanks for the hint on posting picture. Each side is filled with sand and I can't get a shop vac in very far. I think I'll take it apart and dump sand out and run the garden hose inside to flush it out. Then Clorox the whole inside. I like the idea of making a weighted pvc pipe that maybe I can...

    SLAM is over! For now.

The frame of the steps/stairs are like a honeycomb of sorts. It is made with slots in each side to let water flow through. I can't figure out how to post a picture of them in this post. So I will edit my avitar with that pic so you can hopefully see what I mean. I might hav to take it all apart...
