Explain like I’m 5 — my chemistry today

Thanks PoolStored. No idea what the CH is of my fill water, but I can check. And I got the TA of 88 from my fat fingers 😬…apparently I made a typo putting the numbers in my pool math app. Should be 80 😞

Explain like I’m 5 — my chemistry today

Ok, I’ve studied and studied, but I feel like a chemistry student dropout! We had our inground gunite pool (SWG) replastered this spring, and trying to get my numbers back in balance. Our FC has been good all season, with no CC, but when we came back from vacation earlier this week our CC was...

    I’m in love!!

Finally bit the bullet and bought the Betta SE Plus. Arrived around 3 pm, threw it in the pool without charging, and it’s chugging along cleaning up everything…and I mean everything! For clarification, we have a crepe myrtle near the pool, and this year it’s really taken off. You don’t know...

    Float storage

Please show me how you store your floats and noodles by the pool. Our “solution” of just piling them up on top of our deck box just results in a huge mess that I’m tired of looking at 😂 We need something for large rectangular floats as well as noodles, and can’t hang it on a fence or wall due...

Need new pole and brush…please recommend!

Thanks all…ordered the ProTuff pole and brush. Just hope it’s long enough, otherwise I’ll be laying on my belly while brushing the deep end 😂!

Need new pole and brush…please recommend!

We’ll be having our gunite pool resurfaced this spring, and need to upgrade our pole and brush in anticipation of the daily brushing. Looking at the Pro Tuff, but worried that even the 16’ may be too short (our deep end is about 10’). Any recommendations for top quality equipment that won’t fall...

What would you do with this wall?

Thanks Joyful Noise -- our plan is to do a sheer descent. And yes, we're right about at the easement with the edge of the pool, so I guess we won't be able to go back any further. My husband will be pleased that his banana tree gets to live :)

What would you do with this wall?

Thanks...I'll check with our pool guy to see how much we're talking about. He will have to do some destruction/reconstruction to move the pipe, so who knows. I guess I was kinda hoping there was a faux stone wall that could just be placed over the existing wall, lol!

What would you do with this wall?

Thanks…there is about 3 feet of clearance between the back of the wall and the property line fence. And my husband’s beloved banana tree is right behind the wall, so I would have to do some major convincing to get him to tear that out, lol! The wall itself can’t be removed (I don’t think)...

What would you do with this wall?

We’ve hated this water feature since we built the pool. Long story, but PB added it on for free due to issues with our build, and it’s not what we wanted. Now that we’re renovating, we‘re going to convert the single pipe fountain into a waterfall coming out higher up between the tile and...

Renovation questions— explain to me like I’m 5 years old!

Thanks all! We're located in Virginia and, according to all predictions, are expecting a rough winter. Our pool is totally closed with all pipes plugged, etc., and a Loop-Loc cover, so is kind of a pain to cover and uncover! Think we'll wait until spring...

Renovation questions— explain to me like I’m 5 years old!

Waiting on a quote to replace the tile, coping, and replaster our gunite pool, and just trying to figure out the nuts and bolts of timing. We’re scheduled to close the pool for the season October 1 (yes, this Monday!) and planned for work to be done after. Our original plan was to do the work...

Do I need a new cell?

Thanks Allen…makes me feel an eensy weeny bit better :)

Do I need a new cell?

To be honest, I don’t remember when we replaced the cell, which tells me it must have been a while! Serial # is 3E13288-200924. Does that mean it’s from 2009?!?! If so, I certainly can’t complain about having to buy a new one!

Do I need a new cell?

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, but wanted to double check before I toss out close to $1000. We have a Aqua Rite turbo cell T-15, with check salt and check cell lights on (not blinking). Cleaned cell to no avail. Salt is showing as 2300, but test at pool store was 3600. Total chlorine...

New Polaris 3900 — can’t disconnect the quick connector!

It’s not even in the pool! Just took it out of the box and trying to do it in the comfort of our family room ?

New Polaris 3900 — can’t disconnect the quick connector!

Ok, am I missing something here? Went ahead and purchased the 3900 to replace our broken 380, took it out of the box, and neither I nor my husband can unhook the quick connector! It absolutely won’t budge...almost like the pieces were mistakenly welded together. Like I said, we had the 380 for...

Need recs for new pressure side cleaner

Thanks...I was looking at that one and intrigued. Do you know approximate cost? It’s not sold online so unable to get pricing on it. Polaris Days is this weekend at our local pool store, so hoping there’ll be an additional discount ?

Need recs for new pressure side cleaner

Our Polaris 380 has been struggling for the past season or two, and tired of replacing multitude of parts every year. Looking for recommendations for a new pressure side cleaner that’s relatively durable and will do a good, thorough job of cleaning leaves and debris in our gunite pool. I know...

Replace Polaris 360 -- same model or something better?

After nearly a decade of service, our Polaris 380 seems to be on its last wheels. Looking to replace, but not sure what to get without breaking the bank. Should we just get another Polaris or is there something better out there in the same price range? Thanks for recommendations! Edit: realized...

    Aqua Rite and cold water

Just opened our pool last week, it's cleared up beautifully so I turned on the SWG. Just checked on it (it's been on 24 hours) and both check salt and inspect cell lights are lit steady (not flashing). I know the cell is clean, and we had just replaced it last summer. Yes, salt level is low...

    Getting rid of algae stains

The night before we left town for vacation, we noticed a pretty significant leak in one of the pipes. With no other alternative, we called the pool co to repair and turned off the pump so that it didn't run dry before the leak was repaired. When we got home a week later, there was, as...

    Polaris 380 going in circles

Update #2 -- after DH left the house, I took another look at the hose and assembly. Something just didn't look right. Came inside, pulled up a YouTube, and realized that when DH replaced the backup valve a couple of weeks ago, he put it on backwards! Only thing that saved a modicum of his...

    Polaris 380 going in circles

Update -- took it to the pool store, they looked inside and everything was ok. Did find a little piece broken off the housing, so we replaced housing and it's better -- at least it's not falling over on its side -- but it's still going in circles. Hose is floating, not sinking, and all floats...

    Polaris 380 going in circles

We've tried all the troubleshooting tips, and while all wheels move when one is turned, the front wheel moves with a little hitch, not smoothly. I suspect this is the issue, but does it indicate a drive belt that needs to be replaced or is it the actual wheel or wheel assembly?

Sand to DE? What are my options?

Oops...it's the o-rings that need to be replaced, not valves!

Sand to DE? What are my options?

Pool guy just came this am to replace our pump, which was suffering a slow painful death. New pump is working beautifully, but of course when he turned the system on water started pouring out of the top of our sand filter -- diagnosis bad valve (I think that's what he said, but I was still...
