    Does Neighbor’s Pump Sound Right?

The pump runs all day and night. I can be standing next to my pool equipment which is 200ft from the neighbor’s equipment and hear their pump over mine. It’s low key driving me a bit mad. I have a VSP which even on its highest RPM setting is a whisper compared to this. Thoughts? 79e-1t_NvAA

Coming down from SLAM - numbers check.

Coming down from SLAM. My PH was low (7.2) and my CH was sub 50 (I know it’s a vinyl pool but I have a heat pump and would prefer to gradually get my CH up to manufacture recs) so I added a bit of calcium chloride. These are my numbers as of today. Is there anything I should be doing or let...

    Pool base crack under liner

Pool is 3 years old - bottom is vermiculite and otherwise very smooth. After opening earlier this month I noticed at the top of the transition from shallow to deep end this crack appeared. Can I knock/tamp the edges of the crack down to smooth it out, I just leave it alone?

Been SLAMing for 10 days. Stalled with a slight green tint in deep end.

CYA is ~50 and FC is 20. I’m brushing 2X every day and I have my robot running almost 24/7. Pump is running 24/7. But the deep end still has a green tint. Is it possible the green tint is something else besides algae? Pool was a swamp when I opened but it cleared up very quickly. I’m starting to...

Water behind liner after opening pool

I just opened my pool an hour ago, i noticed a spot about the side of a dinner plate and a few squishy spots next to it on my liner wall just below the water line. What is my best course of action?

    Seals on Gizmos failed

I should have taped the threads - We just had about 10" of rain this week. I pulled the top plug out of one of my Gizmos to check to make sure my skimmer lines were still drained and sure enough the water inside of the gizmo was up to the pool water level - When i closed my pool i put 4 gallons...

    Cracked Skimmer on newish pool

Might be hard to see here but there is a series of spider cracks on the inside surface of the skimmer body. I can catch them with my nail and it seemed to travel when I put slight pressure on it. Is this a concern? What would cause this? Should I use a 2 part epoxy and try to seal it?

    Pool cause of Miami collapse?

I have been reading a lot about the tragic building collapse in Miami - there have been a few nuggets of info that have pointed to the pool possibly being a contributing cause of the issue - the video of the collapse shows it as a foundation failure as the building collapses from the ground up -...

CYA on border of too high - should i drain?

My CYA is at 70 - my FC is at 7. Should I drain or just wait for the CYA to naturally come down with backwash and depletion?

    Construction costs

In addition to the pool we just put in (and the patio I am doing myself) my wife and I plan on a home renovation. This renovation adds only 385 sq ft to the footprint of my house - it is not unsubstantial by any means as it will be new siding, new roof, new mater bedroom over existing single...

    First time testing water

This is my first full season with the pool and I just got a K-2006c kit. the kit is a little intimidating. Here are my readings so far... pH is reading about 7.6 Free chlorine at about 1.2ppm CYA did not register at all I assume the low free chlorine being low might be a result of no...

DIY Bluestone Coping and Paver Patio Progress Thread.

I am installing 14”x 4’ x 2” bluestone treads on my steel wall liner pool. I will use this thread for progress pics. Steps taken so far: 1) several days of wetting down and tamping ground around pool (after waiting the winter for settling) 2) added 2” deep crushed stone bed (tamped) 3) placed...

    Honed Coping Edge (bluestone)?

I am pricing out 14"x2" bluestone coping for my pool - i plan on doing the work myself (wife is not happy about that) - I am looking at about $2500 for the stone. My question is do you think it is worth an extra $1200 to have a honed edge put on the coping? My wife is already convinced I am...

Final backfill to bring pool to grade after settling?

the dirt around my pool has settled about 8 inches in the weeks after it was backfilled. There has been some heavy rain. I don't plan on doing patio work until next season, but i do need to get my fence up soon so I can get my CO - i clearly will need to bring in fill to bring this up to grade...

How close should liner seams match to contours?

My liner seems pretty snug - but I noticed in the shallow end, the seam, where the wall meets the floor, is offset a few inches in on the floor. So about 2 inches of wall liner is on the floor, and there is about a half inch gap in the corner behind the liner where the wall and floor meet. Any...

Inground pump hardwired or on a plug?

I had 1 electrician say the pump should be hardwired and another saying it should be on a twist lock plug, my pool builder also said it should be on a plug so i can take it inside in the winter. Who is right? For those in the northern regions, are your pumps hardwired or on a plug, and do you...

    Inspection Question?

I have been trying for 2 days to get through to my town to get an answer with no luck - my permit requires a "Final Engineering Inspection" and a "Dry Well Inspection Prior to back fill" - the second inspection is self explanatory - however, my question is, customarily what phase of construction...

Acrylic Fiberglass Pool Steps Question (Cantilever vs Bullnose)

I plan on going with a cantilevered paver coping around my steel wall liner inground pool. We are waiting on the permits and PB delivered the materials. I am looking at the steps and they appear to have their own coping molded to them. Can they install the steps in a way to allow for seamless...

Spoke to an electrician... is this right?

He said all in ground pool pumps need to be installed with a twist lock plug and cannot be hardwired. Said that this is the equipment disconnect. I said, I thought the breaker panel counts as the disconnect. He said "no." This can't be right, can it? Every setup I have ever seen uses liquid...

    Lights?

My pool builder is offering me standard white light (I assume 120v halogen) or colorlogic LED for a significant up charge. I have no needs for colored lights, but I would prefer LED. Should I ask for a low voltage white LED light (if so any models?) or should I just slap an LED bulb into...

My pool location is going to be about 18’ off my house. I just had a large cedar tree taken down between that location any my future equipment pad location. I left the stump thinking it would be easy enough for the excavator to pop it out during the dig (PB said excavator might charge a few...

    Sub panel question

I am spec'ing out my electric, and for now I am not going with automation - I was looking at an intermatic 100 amp integrated panel with timer (i need a timer for the SWCG). Service upgrade for planned pool?

I have 150 amp main panel service. A generic load calc on my house is about 65 amps and rounded up gives me 80amps (2300 sq ft home with electric wall oven and stovetop and electric dryer). I planned on installing a 100amp sub panel for the the pool. The pool will have a VSP a heat pump and a...
