Higher CH and TA with new chemistry

We replaced last years TF-100 chemistry with a new set this week. The CH was reading 350 last week and is 600 today. TA was 90 last week and is now 110. All other tests are within their normal ranges. Chemistry was exactly one year old, stored inside. We are surprised by the increased...

    SLAM

SLAM time again. We were suspicious the water was slightly duller looking. We did the OCLT and we had a loss of 3.5. The CYA is 70 and our chlorine has not gotten below 6. We’ve been cranking up the SWG though, which also made us suspicious. We live in FL and had a heavy rain earlier...

    CYA of 50

We need to SLAM, we allowed our FC to go too low after company was using our pool. Our OCLT showed a loss of 2 overnight this morning. CYA is currently 50, PH is 7.2. The chart shows CYA 60, not recommended, with an SWG. Should I raise the CYA before starting the SLAM?

    TA- how long to retest?

Our TA went low, to 30, usually its always been around 60 without change. We’ve gotten lax doing our winter pool maintenance. We added baking soda yesterday and testing this morning shows it at 40. We were conservative adding it. PH is currently 7.5.

    third SLAM in first season

Our last SLAM was 9/5. We have been fine until this week when the FC started dropping more than it should. I wanted to ignore it but instead ran a OCLT. There is a 2.0 FC loss this morning. I’ve lowered the PH to 7.2 The torrential rains have eased off and the pool has been stable until...

    Solar bubble cover

We are heading into our first cooler weather season in SWFL. The PB gave us a thick solar bubble cover for the pool, it is iridescent blue on top and brown on the bottom and cut to fit the pool. Do we wind it up during the day so the pool gets sun or leave it on all the time unless we use it...

    First Pool Season Lessons

We are nearing the end of our first swimming season. We will transition into covering the pool at night soon and then turning off the SWG and going to chlorine when the temps get too low. We live in SWFL, so the pool won’t be closed. I’ve learned a lot from two SLAMs this first season. The...

    Seventh Day of SLAM

OCLT Target TFC 28 this morning FC 25 CC .5 it was 26.5 yesterday morning. The lowest has been an FC of 23. I’ve been testing four to five times a day and adding bleach. I start at seven and several times the 10 o’clock one is still at 28 and nothing has had to be added. I’ve lost 4 FC...

FC 4.5 yesterday and .5 this morning :(

My FC was 4.5 with a .5 CC yesterday morning and the FC is 0.5 this morning. I was so surprised at the barely pink color instead of the deep pink, I got another sample. No luck, it was the same. We had several torrential rains this past week. I’ve added bleach to bring it up rather than...

    Thank you TFP!

We went to Leslie’s to pick up stabilizer/conditioner and to get the monthly water chemistry printout today. The report said “congratulations, your pool water is within all recommended parameters.” I don’t rely on or trusts their reports, but we need a monthly printout to keep on file to show...

    Finally on a steady course

We are new pool owners since May and finally have steady numbers after doing a SLAM shortly after taking over the pool. I didn’t realize the seriousness of a too low FC. We’ve added stabilizer to keep the CYA in the middle of the range and MA as needed. We are still dialing in the SWG and...

    Thanks Richard 320!

The FC has slowly been dropping down to our target after a SLAM, it’s at FC 7.5 today. We took our monthly water sample into Leslie’s, it’s needed for the Pebble Tec warranty. Their test showed our FC at 4, which I knew was wrong. I was concerned though that the phosphate was high, 300...

    Last few questions on SLAM

So SLAMming is done and FC has been going down. This morning it tested at 12ppm. I have a few questions yet. How soon should I turn my SWG back on as I get close to my target maxiumum? Within of couple ppm? I’m a new pool owner and I hadn’t gotten my SWG dialed in yet for what I need, before...

    Slamming this am, have questions

Slamming today. The calculator is telling me 224 oz bleach for a 7500 gallon pool with CYA of 70 and current FC of 3.5 to get the FC to 28 for salt pool. Is this correct? I want other eyes before I do this. other questions Do I poor this much bleach around the entire perimeter of the pool...

    SLAM Likely Needed

We have been battling chlorine loss. We are in FL with either full sun or drenching rains the past two weeks. CYA was 50 and we added stabilizer Saturday morning. It was mostly dissolved that evening and the sock was empty the next morning. This morning CYA reads 60. Last evening we had...

    TF-100 Kit came yesterday

TF-100 results from this morning: FC 3.0 CC 0 PH 7.5 CH 325 TA 60 CYA 65 I added bleach last night to get the FC from 1 back to 3 I’m increasing my SWG from 20% to 30% today and will see where the FC is this evening. Can my SWG keep the chlorine at the correct level or will I...

New Pool and have some basic questions

Pool school was yesterday and we are on our own with the pool now. The pool builder requires a printed monthly pool water readout from a pool store to keep our warrantee on the PebbleTec finish if there is an issue later. A Taylor K-1004 kit came with other equipment with pool school...

Into Second Month of Having a Pool

We started swimming in our pool in May. We began getting estimates last summer, finally picked a company from the many in this area. Ground was broken in February with our pool company finishing slightly ahead of their twelve week build estimate. Landscaping is being done this week and next...
