SWG switch failed (CLOSED) 2nd day of operation

I am in the process of bringing up my SWG and running some experiments. Yesterday, in the 2nd day of operation, my SWG flow switch locked ON (closed position). What I found was a tiny 1/2" length of "like a pine needle" had wedged itself into the location shown by the red arrow in the...

Tight pad equipment rebuild with SWCG addition and other changes

Last September I did some exploratory excavations to see if my pad could be remodeled to accommodate some changes I wanted to make. I’m finally getting close to being finished after long periods of inactivity…weather, trips, holidays, laziness, etc. Here are some pictures of what I found early...

    Circupool RJ60+ Installation: 240V vs 120V

Is there any disadvantage for a SWG to be powered by 120V instead of the factory preset of 240V? Since I have a VSP, I will NOT be connecting the SWG power directly to the relay used by my 240V VS Pump. Instead I will connect it to a separate relay that my automation will control. There is an...

So close to installing SWG. I didn’t expect this…Existing Salt Level ~5000ppm

I currently run my pool using liquid chlorine but am soon making the switch to SWG. I’ve read many of the threads that mention “all chlorine pools are already salt pools” and so wondered what I would run into when I finally got a salt test Kit. Last Oct I bought a SWG. Near the same time I...

Anyone have experience with Clearwater/Zodiac/Jandy LM Series SWG?

I am hoping there is some knowledge about this older SWG marketed under the Clearwater/Zodiak/Jandy LM2-40/24/16 labels. It is probably 10-14 years old. I bought this item: Zodiac Clearwater LM2-40 Power Center on craigslist a few days ago, it did NOT include a salt cell. The owner said it...

    Dynamic GPM Calculations

This has been a project that has been in the works (sporadically) for a couple years. A number of the parts have been in place for over a year but I have finally gotten around to start piecing it together. I’m posting this hoping I can catch a bit of attention from the pump gurus on the forum...

Is there a Free Chlorine stabilization period (due to CYA soak up) after adding liquid chlorine? Answer is NO !

Hello, I know there is a mixing requirement after adding liquid chlorine in order to take/get a good FC reading. Is there also a minimum wait time for the CYA to "soak up" some of that FC as part of the process? If so, how long...and I suppose it would depend on your CYA level?

Jandy Neverlube Valve Squeaks / Squeaking

I have some work to do on the actuators for my Jandy 3-way Neverlube valves and so wanted to possibly address another issue when I do that: Sometime a couple years ago, I noticed that my two Jandy valves squeak when they are turned by the actuator in one direction (and only in that one...

    My NEW Pool Automation Controller

This is a work in progress…I will be updating this first post with some of my latest progress. Normally, I post projects after I have completed 90% of it. This is not the case with this automation project. This thread will be kind of like a pool-build thread, with updates when I get the...

Square D HEPD80 Surge Protector for pool equipment protection

A lot of experts on this site recommend these for protecting your pool breaker box and equipment. I’ve always been on the fence because I read the reviews and Square D’s warranty (guarantee that it stops surge damage) is essentially not worth pursuing. However, it supposedly protects your...

Posting Tables, is there still a way?

On the old site I could copy and paste excel tables into posts. Those old posts didn’t get translated correctly with the move and when I have tried to insert tables from excel into the new site, they don’t seem to format correctly. Is there still a way to post tables? The automatic...

Are multiple starts and stops bad for a pump?

Is turning on and off a pump hard on it? I am considering scheduling my pool pump to run for about 15-20 minutes of each hour (especially peak hours) in the summer so that I can inject chlorine regularly (stenner pump), skim the surface, and mix “layers of water” (the temperature differential...

    What good are PSI measurements?

I’m thinking about adding some monitoring gadgets to my pool equipment pad and am considering some PSI transducers so that PSI related events can be monitored and/or triggered (notifications). It seems a filter PSI transducer would be useful to monitor filter pressure and tell you if it’s...

Why is my water so CLEAR?

I converted to the TFP method about a month ago and after early struggles to keep up with free chlorine, I added a stenner pump last week. Last week I also started some experiments with my in-floor cleaning system...I have been running my filter more as a result of these experiments. This week...

Optimize Your In-Floor Cleaning Effectiveness and Efficiency

--------------------------- Original Claim - see PRELUDE below it OK, I have made some quick edits to this thread after laying awake all night and realizing that I have wasted $1000s (probably $5K-$7K) over the past 25 years by not adjusting one valve on my system. More edits and comments are...

Stenner installation with buried tank for AZ heat

I just completed this project today...I need to still upload my latest pictures but here was the status a week and a half ago. In the back you can see a failed start for the hole...I decided I wanted it closer to the action (electrical and plumbing). The tank is a standard 15 gallon one that...

Retractable, Removable Pool Equipment Cover / Sun Shade / Protection

When I recently was working on my pool equipment pad (I replaced my old Fiberstars fiber optic lights with SR Smith Treo LED lights), I realized that my pool equipment and plumbing that I put in 4 years ago as part of our pool remodel was getting pretty beat up by the Arizona sun. So, last...

New Pool Fill, New Religion (TFPC), First TF-100 Readings, What Next?

Although I have been a lurker in these forums for a number of years…I have never followed the TFP method for balancing for my pool. My pool tile line was suffering and I was needing more chlorine tablets…last week my pool store numbers included CYA 200+ and Calcium 800+. I have a new...

    Automating my pool aerator

It's not here yet but my pool will get in the low 90s later in the summer. I have never used my pool aerator and I thought I might give it a chance this year. However, currently it is a 3/4 inch PVC valve to a poolside aerator which sprays out above the water...of course manually operated...

COMPLETED: DIY Travertine Pool / Patio / Waterfall Remodel in AZ

COMPLETED: DIY Travertine Pool/Patio/Waterfall Remodel in AZ Hi, I was a serious lurker on this forum for a couple years…many thanks to posters on this forum and other forums which I referenced for this project. This is a DIY patio/pool remodel that my wife and I undertook a few years ago...
