Help! I've never had this much algae

Okay but I won't be able to do this until tomorrow evening. Okay I think I understand. Will be rereading this I'm sure!! Wouldn't there be an ammonia smell?

Help! I've never had this much algae

No, just put it in the sock. The test tube doesn't have a reading for 0 so it's possible to have some in it. Pool math said to add 7 pounds at 0. I only have 5 so I was going to add all of that and test again. Am I on the right track?

Help! I've never had this much algae

Full day of birthday partying and visiting with the grandbabies. Came home, tested water. CYA and FC at 0. Ph was at 7 2. Put 2.5 lbs CYA in sock and tied it in front of jet. Added enough chlorine to SLAM level. Hopefully the CYA will be dissolved enough to add the rest. Only have enough reagent...

Help! I've never had this much algae

DH has taken over, said I was overthinking it. He brushed side walls. The robot keeps clogging up so he removed it and is now vacuuming. Waiting for water to fully mix to get a sample then we'll proceed from there.

Help! I've never had this much algae

These are my steps 😳 Should I brush them now or wait until added chlorine?

Help! I've never had this much algae

We opened our pool yesterday and very late this year. I've never had this much algae to deal with. I know the more I can get out before SLAM the better. I have been running the robot but not brushing. I have not tested anything yet. Historically, FC & CYA are 0 upon opening. I don't know whether...

    Opening pool concerns

Hello everyone!! We opened our pool today and I have several questions and concerns. After running pump for several hours and cleaning debris, gunk etc I tested the water. Ph 6.8 -7 CH 125 FC 0 TC 0 TA 30 CYA ?? (Have new refill kit ordered) Our cover is old and several months ago, my son's...

I made the switch to liquid 😊

I did this tonight and my FC went up to what I was shooting for so apparently it hasn't degraded much if any! They had it stored in a shady spot up on a rack. And the pallet was shrink wrapped really well with plastic.

    TA test question

I was testing the TA yesterday and observed that when I put the 5th drop in, the blue water turned a purple pink color then I added another drop and it turned to pink or "red" as the directions say. So would the TA be 50 or 60 or somewhere in between?

I made the switch to liquid 😊

It will have to do for now. I don't want to buy another bucket of cal hypo or use it for that matter. What do you suppose the strength has weakened to?

I made the switch to liquid 😊

I've been in this group for a while now but never converted to using liquid chlorine. I've always used calcium hypo. But since I've battled cloudy water for most of this season, I've learned that it's more than likely the cal hypo. Needing to replenish my chlorine, I went looking for other...

    Ph creeping up

Started SLAM, keeping it at 16. Storming now. I'm using the Cal hypo because that's all I have at the moment. I'm beginning to think the gray dust residue stuff that settled might be dead algae and I probably had a problem with it for a couple weeks and didn't realize it. There's a lot in there...

    Ph creeping up

Can I start the SLAM now during the day? Does weather matter during the process? Calling for storms here today and tonight.

    Ph creeping up

Okay so I performed an OCLT and last night was 5 and this morning 3.5 so maybe I'm fighting something? Went ahead with MA and ph is 7.2 this morning. Going to get some baking soda today to increase the TA. Then adjust ph if needed. No time to do a SLAM because its garden season and my daughter...

    Ph creeping up

I really would like to bump the TA back up to 70. Should I add some baking soda and then lower the ph with MA? I'm scared if I just add the MA, the TA will get too low.

    Ph creeping up

Hello all, My ph has been holding steady all season between 7.2 and 7.8 with my alkalinity being around 70. I haven't had to use MA hardly at all even with parties and summer storms. I fought high ph levels in previous years but found my pool prefers the 70 alkalinity level. However, when I...

    Question about brushing

Just curious 🤔 about when to brush. I do brush the walls every week but I'm wondering, do you brush before or after vacuuming and before or after adding chlorine??

Pool looked great but now I messed up

I'm assuming this is stabilized. Planning to vacuum and adjust levels as needed today. These will go in a floater on Sunday. Will put in as many as will fit. Will be gone 7 days.

Pool looked great but now I messed up

The white powder stuff is almost out. If it's left undisturbed it settles and pool is really clear. I gave the entire pool a good brushing after backwashing. Speaking of backwashing, my "clean" PSI sits at 16 and I usually BW when it gets to 22+ or if the jets are struggling/clogged. Does that...

Pool looked great but now I messed up

So the kids swam in it last night and stirred it all up again and made it cloudy. Waited until tonight to vacuum. There was white stuff settled on the steps and I felt of it. It looked like the DE. Idk if it is or not but I do know that the pool didn't cloud up because of DE. If it's DE, will...

Pool looked great but now I messed up

Pool is so much better, really clear but this stuff is all over the place. Was going to vacuum but storms and lack of sleep and energy kept me from doing it. Put some CYA in a sock in front of a jet but it's a different brand and not dissolving like the other I bought. Added more DE after I...
