Yeah Rammy you probably want 5 micron or lower.

    Milky/blue cloud- What next?

Kindly list test readings. CYA, FC, TA, PH, CC (Dont need that until water is clear to save on reagents) OCLT. Keep maintain of SLAM or Shock levels until water is clear or you will have to start over, and algae will take foothold again. Keep ph at 7.2 until you pass OCLT and until water is...

I need some guidance please, the pool is GREEN

Yes please take pictures we love progress updates. If you plateau and hit a brick wall at cloudy blue, we have a few cost efficient filtration tricks here too at TFP for clearing dead algae.

I need some guidance please, the pool is GREEN

Ahh... I do love these stories that start with "My pool store told me and sold me to do this." Its pretty much the same thing as saying: "My used car salesman told me to put sugar in my gas tank to clean out my injecters." :D

Rammy does that pond filter have any kind of micron rating just out of curiousity?

    Green bottom when opening pool

What Donaldson said. I had a green pool this year, I filtered out and vaccumed out any solids of algae first before adding SLAM levels of liquid chlorine, it probably saved me a couple of jugs of bleach. I cleared my pool in a week with triple filtration, and maybe 3 to 4 jugs of bleach, however...

Familiarize yourself with SLAMing Pool School and the ABC's of Water Chemistry. Also CYA to Chlorine ratio chart here on TFP. Start adding liquid bleach or liquid pool chlorine to SHOCK OR SLAM levels accordance wih your CYA of 40 which is FC 16ppm. Use the Pool Math Calculator to determine the...

First time slam in a swamp

Yeah I have a self appointed expert at work who says hes been opening and closing pools for 30 years using tri chlor pucks, ph -/+ algecide and test strips...lol... says his pool is crystal clear every year. Even pays a guy to open it for him too!...lol...Tried telling him about TFPC method with...

    South Alabama Swamp Slam

I turn mine inside out and power wash over my storm drain then turn it right side in again and power wash it again. But you don't have to you can just simply take it to your kitchen sink and hit it with the hose jet with hot water same procedure. I've been using mine for 3 years. I just bleach...

    First time slammer, checking in

Sounds good. Yeah as mentioned, throttling back the valves 1/8 or so will slow the vacuum to waste down and allow you not to lose too much water while getting the spots on the floor. Or as mentioned you can go to the Slime bag or The Duda diesel bag route at 5 or 1 micron to get the fine stuff...

    South Alabama Swamp Slam

Sounds good. On a sand filter yeah two weeks sounds about right. I like to advocate here whats called a Duda Diesel bag over the return jet with an elbow and hose clamp in place to speed up the dead algae removal process once you kill it off with the SLAM to get you to at least cloudy blue...

    South Alabama Swamp Slam

Try not backwashing as often, maybe every other day or so. You want your filrers to run a little dirty to filter out finer particles. Keep at the SLAM, try hairnets ir skimmer socks over the skimmer basket. If you still have trouble clearing let me know I have another idea with a 5 micron or 1...

Just received K-2006 kit, uh oh

What DERB22 said. But hold off on adding the washing soda or borax to raise pH. You want the pH at 7.2 for a SLAM. You can bump the TA to 90 later with the baking soda. Balance out the PH later well. Dont know if CH is relevant in a fiberglass pool, so you can just leave that as well. Start...

    First time slammer, checking in

Easier method is to add DE, skimmer suction vac to waste. Also, use hairnets or skimmer socks over your skimmer basket. You can also try a 5 or 1 micron bag over your return jet for what your skimmer and sand filter doesnt pick up.

    Algaecide? Yay or Nay?

Nay...Only a preventative measure and adds copper sulfide unnecessarily to your water. Liquid Chlorine at SLAM or Shock levels for CYA of 50 if water starts to turn green or cloudy. Your numbers look good. Keep a minium of 6-8 ppm FC

    Cloudy pool.. need help

Yes i use the Duda Diesel bag at 5 micron in combination with the skimmer socks to filter out finely suspended particles such as dead algae or pollen that my cartridge filter may miss at 10 micron to polish my water clear after or during all SLAM requirements. Depending on the clarity and...

Where do I go from here?

We can adjust the TA later. The TA within range just stabilizes Ph fluctuation. 7.2 ph is perfect for SLAM. What is your CYA? So we know how high to take your FC for SLAM?

Cloudy Pool is about to drive me over the edge

I hear ya about being strapped financially. Its usually week to week over here with us too. Although Ivery strongly reccomend the Taylor K-2006 or the TF-100 to do the FAS-DPD test to properly initiate a SLAM to clear a pool. You might be able to squeak by with a HTH 6 way test kit or Chlorox...

    Cloudy pool.. need help

When you get a comprehensive test kit just make sure to test the cya first and then stick with the liquid chlorine for SLAM. Adjust the pH to 7.2 before you SLAM. The K-2006 usualy runs if my memory serves me correctly about $70. The K - 2006 however is limited on fas-dpd reagent and cya...

Opening and SLAMing for the first time

I would just like to make a small notation. When you refer to "shock" THEBIGWOO are you referring to FC being at shock level appropriate to your CYA level of 50 ppm or are you using a "shock" product of granules such as Calcium Hypochlorite, Lithium Hypichlorite, or Di-Chlor granules. Just...

    Cloudy pool.. need help

No dead algae does not dissolve out. Typically it turns white or brown once from green algae once it is dead, and has to be filtered out over time, or vaccumed to waste. Your first objective is to obtain a proper test kit such as the TF-100. or Taylor K-2006 which is lacking in CYA and FAS-DPD...

    Cloudy pool.. need help

The cloudiness maybe due to dead algae. Get your chlorine up to SLAM levels for your CYA of 30 which should be 12ppm. I would overshoot a little and go to 14 or 16 ppm, and hold at 12ppm Make sure to use liquid bleach chlorine only and the pool math calc to determine how much to add in fl. Oz...

Cannot get my CC to stop fluctuating!!!

I noticed you have the Hayward 1500 filter. Is this the Hayward CCX 1500. cartridge filter? If it is how well have you disinfected your cartridge filter from algae? Also? Your intake and return lines? Are they hoses? Or is it hard plumbed with PVC? Sometimes algae and sediment can hide in the...

    Frog habitat

For the main drain issue, I was going to suggest doing a "spaceballs" (blowing rather than suction) and take a heavy duty shop vac, duct tape a cut plastic Snapple bottle to the blow hose and apply air pressure from the main drain jandy side piping to the main drain opening in the pool. Have...

    Here are my numbers.

Re: Here are my numbers. Depends on how high your CYA is and if your pool is salt water generated or not. What is your current CYA level and setup? If you are non salt water generated you may want to stay between 40 PPM and 50 PPM since you have constant sun exposure from sunup to sundown, but...

    First time slammer, checking in

The spots in the floor could be a number of things. Could be algae, Could be pollen, could be sand. If you can collect it with a turkey baster that's a great idea, if you touch it underwater before it disbursts, does it feel slimy or gritty? I chased a spot on my floor for 4 years before I...

    Green Pool - Again

There are three reasons why the pool chemical companies and pool stores and manufacturers sell so much of this garbage. One is because of the inexperience of pool owners and the know how of properly balancing water chemistry. Two is convenience. Most Pool owners don't feel like throwing in...

    Green Pool - Again

CYA is 80 TA 120 PH 7.4 CH 280 Numbers look reasonable within range with the exception of the CYA. If you have a non salt water generated pool you want your cya levels to be between 30 and 50 PPM. You are going to have to drain some water and refill with fresh water, to get your cya levels...
