First time slam in a swamp

Just got my TF100 kit, and slamming the pool to the best of my abilities. It's a dark green, algae filled disaster. A co-worker this morning suggested adding a dose of strong algaecide to speed up the killing process. I dunno, I thought the high chlorine would break down the algaecide. Thoughts?

Whatever you do don't add an algaecide. You need lots of chlorine. I'm assuming you've read the article on how to SLAM the pool.

I'm at work right now, so I don't have all the test results atm. But I checked chlorine 2 hours ago and added to raise, accounting for CYA. I've read pool school.

I was wondering if he was on to something, or just a self appointed expert. Sounds like the latter tho. I'm sticking with chlorine.

No worries- have you got any specific concerns?

It would be good to get the full set of numbers later to see what's going on but obviously if your pool is green then the SLAM is the cure.

Algaecide works better as a preventative than as a cure, just the way that Lysol stops the spread of germs but drinking it won't cure a cold. Stick with bleach.

You probably can't see the floor, but drag the bottom with a leaf rake

and vacuum blind if you must. The more debris you remove, the faster the process goes.

One step ahead of you. Vacuumed blind Wednesday, raked the bottom, testing and testing to stay on top of it. Just gonna have to make a few more trips for bleach

Yeah I have a self appointed expert at work who says hes been opening and closing pools for 30 years using tri chlor pucks, ph -/+ algecide and test strips...lol... says his pool is crystal clear every year. Even pays a guy to open it for him too!...lol...Tried telling him about TFPC method with BBB, the algecide with the copper. Hes like...yeah i know....lol... But hey whatever works for you...with a nod wink and a smile.
