I have a 115/230 toggle switch on my pool pump. If I swith it to 230 do I have to make internal changes to the wiring?

If you're currently running it on 115 then you have to run 220 from a new breaker on new wires to your pump to run it on 220.

Show us some pics... of the pump and of the data plates..
It is unusually for there to be a toggle switch to change from 120 to 240 operation..
Are you sure that you don't have a 2-speed pump.. Those often have a toggle switch to select low speed or high speed.
