I put in a salt system last year after chlorine prices skyrocketed (fire does that). It is working fine but I have a couple of questions, especially since I am planning a Diamond Brite resurfacing next month:
My pH constantly increases from a "normal" 7.5 or so to over 8, typically 8.2 or so if I let it go a couple of weeks --I try not to and have gone to 3x weekly testing recently. (pool is about 10,000 gallons). I find myself adding muriatic acid every week. My question is can I go ahead and add an ounce or so of muriatic acid daily to try and keep the pH relatively constant? Does anyone have an injection system for muriatic acid that can automate this?

I won't be able to turn on the salt system for 4 weeks after the resurfacing is complete, per SGM. I am concerned a bit about cyuranic acid requirements. Fortunately , as part of the contract the resurfacer is responsible for re-start-up and balancing for the first 2-3 weeks but after that it is mine. What are people doing to add cyuranic acid? I tried the stuff that you add to the skimmer and let it dissolve over time, but is there any way to get it up quickly? Also, I have read on various sites where cyuranic acid levels should be and unfortunately they are inconsistent. Some say 30-50, others say 50-80, So what is the deal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Larry,

We like for saltwater pools to have a CYA of 60 to 80 ppm.

You can have much less CYA, if you want, but the pool will just use the FC quicker.

Many of our members have acid injection systems..

Before you get one, you might want to look at your TA level.. I run mine between 50 and 60.. What is your TA level? Lowering my TA has reduce my acid demand.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim. I’ll need to test my alkalinity but I believe last test it was around 80 or so.

Are there any recommendations or suggestions the acid injection systems?

I used to change my pH all the time and finally read here let it find its happy space.
Mine goes up to about 7.8 and really doesn’t climb anymore so yours may want to stay around 8.0.
Mine still climbs above 7.8 but takes several weeks and still never goes that high.

But for the new surface follow what folks here recommend for a new pool until they say it’s good to go.
