JVA for pool cleaner side port not recognized

New pool installed here. I think my setup is pretty similar to this thread JVA for pool cleaner. I don't understand why he had to move the light wires and free up one of the AUX ports? There are several empty AUX ports already?

I replaced the manual valve, that diverts to the side suction port, with a JVA and plugged it into CLEANER. I removed the (useless??) connector that was plugged into AUX3. I set dip switch 1 to ON. After reading hours of forums, I don't understand why CLEANER still shows FREE in iAqualink?? I can flip the setup switch on the JVA to move the valve either direction, or center position for OFF.

When or how do I get iAqualink show CLEANER "USED" in ASSIGN JVAs? Then, I want to create a one touch to activate that valve AND assign VSP to a certain speed. I call this ROBOT, because I need a certain speed and valve amount to create enough suction for the cleaner robot vacuum thing. Am I misinterpreting CLEANER as the side suction port of the pool which is actually something else?

I tried to plug the JVA instead into SOLAR and went into service mode and activated SOLAR. The red indicator light illuminated, but nothing happened.

Really confused. I tried to read as much as I could. Do I have to relocate the light wires as in that post? Thank you very much in advance. The pool builder isn't much help at this point.

Welcome to TFP.
Do you have a RS4, RS6 or RS8 Aqualink?
What equipment do you have wired to the Aux 1 HP relay? If you want to use the Aux 1 for the suction side cleaner, you should not have any equipment wired to it.
Please explain what equipment you have. It shows that Aux 2 is active - what is connected to it? And you indicated that you disconnected Aux 3 - was anything connected to it?

The Cleaner JVA port shows to have something plugged into it. Is that the recently added JVA for the suction side cleaner? You indicate the JVA works when you manually flip the switch between the two ON positions.

Welcome to TFP.

How are your DIP Switches set in the upper left of your panel.?

Dip switch #1 makes AUX1 be labeled CLEANER.

Dip switch #3 makes AUX3 control a spa spillover.

Yes exactly. Though I read somewhere that it needed to be DIP1 ON and AUX3 empty so the CLEANER aux would work?

I just added the photo of the wires below the panel.

I can't find the model number. Don't know what's plugged into what. I DID add the new JVA to the CLEANER port all the way to the right, that's correct.

The AUX3 was originally just hanging loose as you see it.

I do have a small fountain/waterfall in the pool walls.
I do have a propane heater for the pool and spa.

DIP1 ON and DIP 3 on. Originally DIP1 was OFF.

CLEANER is AUX1 with dipswitch 1, not AUX3.

The connector for the new JVA (Cleaner port) is too large to fit the AUX connections.

No one said it goes into the AUX connector. It uses the AUX1 button and the AUX1 relay is used if your cleaner requires a booster pump.

It has a third pin, it can't fit in any of the AUX ports. It can only fit the CLEANER or SOLAR ports to the right.

The JVA goes in the CLEANER socket.

DIP1 ON makes AUX1 ignored then?

DIP1 ON makes AUX1 be labeled CLEANER on any control panels and have the AUX1 button control both the AUX1 relay and the CLEANER JVA socket.

Do I have to remove or relocate whatever is in AUX1 port for the CLEANER to work?

What do you have connected to the AUX1 relay? You have to move that to another AUX to have it controlled independent of your cleaner.

I think I understand, but none of that logic seems to be logical.

DIP1 makes the labels in iAqualink AUX1 activate the physical CLEANER port labeled on the panel...ok AUX1 MUST be bypassed in order to power the CLEANER.

I have no idea what's plugged into what. I didn't build it and builder didn't teach me that. How do I find that out? Heater? Lights? waterfall vsp?

Maybe I move AUX1 to AUX4 because AUX3 must be empty?

Huh?

DIP1 makes the labels in iAqualink AUX1 activate the physical CLEANER port labeled on the panel...ok AUX1 MUST be bypassed in order to power the CLEANER.

Why do you say AUX1 must be bypassed?

What cleaner are you powering?

What turns on when you press AUX1?

Is the AUX1 relay plugged into the AUX1 socket?

Or you need to follow the wiring in the panel.

Maybe I move AUX1 to AUX4 because AUX3 must be empty?

Why must AUX3 be empty? Do you have a spa spillover?

Looks like you have a RS6 and can use AUX4 and AUX5.

The JVA is to divert suction to the pool side port for a robot cleaner.
I think AUX1 is the pool pump. What's the difference between AUX1 relay and AUX1 socket?
Yes, I have a spillover.
Aqualink says AUX2 is Light.
No idea what AUX3 was as it was left unplugged. I'll have to ask builder these questions. Thanks.

So the cleaner is powered by water suction and uses no electrical power.
I think AUX1 is the pool pump.

Observe your Outdoor Control panel.

Filter Pump is a separate button and relay from the AUX buttons and relays.

AUX1 socket has the yellow mark on it. You can see the filter pump relay socket before it and the AUX2 socket after it.

AUX1 relay is one of these relays. to confirm exactly which one you need to follow the wire plugged into the AUX1 socket and see which relay it attaches to. Turn off power to the panel and all CBs before you stick your fingers in there.

Yes, I have a spillover.

Then AUX3 relay socket cannot be used if you have SPILLOVER turned on with DIP3.

Aqualink says AUX2 is Light.

Looks like the lower right relay is unused and not plugged into any socket.

7.1 DIP Switch Functions

S1 DIP #1 ON- AUX 1 Controls Pool Cleaner.

If you installed a booster pump for a pool cleaner, the relay coil for the booster pump must be plugged into the AUX 1 relay socket.

If a non-booster pump cleaner is installed, plug the JVA into the cleaner JVA socket.

Turn ON DIP Switch #1.

Partial progress!

AUX1 - Waterfall (I relocated this to AUX4)
AUX2 - Light
AUX3 - Empty (spillover enabled)
AUX4 - Now waterfall
5-8 empty
CLEANER is my new JVA that diverts suction to the cleaner robot.

In service mode I can activate AUX1 which will turn the jva as desired but there is still no cleaner detected in the aqualink assign JVAs. Not sure how to assign or activate AUX1/CLEANER in the aqualink.
