I noticed yesterday that my ProGrid DE6020 filter has a crack in the wall of the upper filter body. The filter was there when my wife and I bought the house 9+ years ago. Should I consider buying a whole new filter based on the age of this one or just replace the upper body of the filter?

I think it's time to build some type of housing to protect the equipment from the Arizona sun.

It's a toss up. Certainly cheaper, maybe not much, to replace the top. The reality is that it is compromised. This is a PRESSURE VESSEL and needs to be replaced before more damage or someone gets hurt.

Personal opinion based on all our experience here...if there is a problem with the top, other problems are close behind. Best to replace.

New filter time. Get a large (300 sq. ft. +) cartridge filter. That lid alone is in the $600-$700 range. Sometimes they won't ever seal properly with an old bottom tank as they older portions have deformed together over the years, especially in the Arizona Sun.

Thank you all for the information. I will buy a cartridge filter as suggested.

When it comes to 425 sq ft versus 525 sq ft, is the only difference the amount of debris they hold? Which one might be better for my setup?

If you have the room and the wallet for the 525 that's what you should get.
Thank you for the reply. I will get the 525. Is it recommended to have a professional install the new filter or is it okay to do it myself?

The last time I purchased a pump, I was told by Hayward that the warranty would be void if I installed it and not a professional. Would it be the same with a new filter?
