Just curious what some of you have been quoted for your warranty on new pool builds. What is the more common time frame as well as what happens if your pool builder goes out of business before your warranty is period over?

Skiddy,

In my mind Pool warranties are pretty useless except for any equipment failures.

I suspect that any problems that happen in the first year would be taken care of.. But after that, most everything else will be your fault.

Obviously, there are exceptions, but in general I would not count on any long term non-equipment warranties.

Thanks,

Jim R.

If I remember correctly, our builder warranted their work for 1 year. The other builders I interviewed offered the same, so that must have been typical for this area at the time (our pool was installed early 2004; our builder has been in business since 1984 and are still in business). Warranties for the equipment was whatever the manufacturer offered. We had a few things pop up under warranty which the builder promptly took care of.

If the builder goes out of business, I assume whatever warranty they offer goes away, but manufacturer’s warranty on equipment should still be in place, assuming the manufacturer is still in business.

Your Pool Builder warranty is only as good as the builders morals while he is in business.

At the end of the day any significant warranty issue will be a moral issue for the builder and not a legal one. Some builders stand behind what they said and some don't.

Thanks for the info. I have a rusting rebar issue behind the waterline tile in a single spot. My PB looks to be going under and has not come out to take a look since I brought it up to them a few months ago. I guess I am on my own here.

If the builder goes bust and it is the equipment, manufacturer's warranties will still apply, but you will have to file a claim. If it is a structural issue, you're probably on your own.
