Okay so the dirt has started for reals now LOL

Ready for YOUR first job? When they say they are done go out to the hole with the pool plans in your hand and a tape measure. Is it wide, deep, long, enough? Add about 8" for the steel, shell, and plaster. For the sides it will be about 16" bottom to top it will be about 8". NOW is the time to fix if needed.

Have we talked about WATER depth yet? If not lets do it now. WATER depth is from the bottom of the pool (with plaster in it) to the middle of the skimmer opening/water line tile. SOME people just say "depth" meaning from the bottom of the pool to the coping. When you measure like that you lose about 4" of water depth. Just something ELSE to think about.

Not sure what section to post this in but my pool water is really dirty looking. Could it be algae or something else. Taking a sample to the pool store. Really not sure what to do. I do have a proper test kit but all my numbers are good….hahaha

Lol…..Couldn’t resist, right now my dig is full or rainwater and the backyard is a mud wrestlers muddy dream. Bad storm coming through with more rain later.

They have the dig done. Supposed to have rain everyday until Monday now. GrrrrE7894A00-BC38-461A-92E5-912EA3C64806.jpeg

Need more that one emoji for this one!

🤣 for the water needing to be fixed LOL

:( on the water and more rain coming. IF you want you can pump it out as you have a chance.

Did you measure it before it filled with water?

No I didn't get to measure it before it filled with water. I didn't get home until it was dark and already storming.

I think they will be there this morning to pump it out.

Funny story about my bro-in-law....2 days ago he put in a fiberglass pool (long story on how he has to do one better than me) anyway. He enlisted the help of their family friend and ex pool store owner. He called me last night to ask about how much rock we hit and how much rain water is in ours. He said he doesn't have gutters on the back of his house and it's all running into his pool. For some reason he has the pool about 3' if not less from his house. He has woods that are close so I guess he was trying to keep away from that. His pool is 14'x30' and I'm not sure why he didn't turn it parallel to his house so he wouldn't be right up against it. He admitted the ex pool store owner didn't know as much about pools as he let on. Well duh, I could of told you that. Heck I know more about pools, equipment, etc then him. Guess they forgot the skimmer and some other parts. I really thought buy all the BS my BIL lets out of his mouth every time he talks, that his pool was gonna be Olympic size. It has the 3' or 4' radiused corners that come into the water area (that's just wasted swim space).

Too each his own...I'll have my own pool before long. Just hate family get togethers because he never shuts up about I'm doing this and that and we are building this and that and my outdoor this and that. LOL

say what??? OH MY! Yeah I would have to take a pic of it and when he starts with all of "big mouthing" I would just pull up that pic and show it to everyone without saying a word  They say a picture is worth 1000 words............it will show he does NOT know what he is talking about!!! hehe

Yep that would be funny!!! :laughblue:

In the county so no codes or permits required. He said "it's so close to the house you can jump off the roof into the shallow end!!!" I would think with insurance alone that would be a big no no, too much liability especially with his 15 year old son and his friends.

Can understand the frustration, but still think you are in a better position than the PB 1.5 hours away. I generally think for PBs its just another pool, another day at the office. But for the customer its something very exciting, expansive, and has quite an emotional attachment to it. Think they miss that being tradies. When really you only want be treated honestly, openly, and kept up to date.

I have discovered most PBs tend to build to many pools a year, and have to many running at once. I was after a builder who built around 12 a year. The one I engaged said 15-20, but in reality does 50. I have found he goes yeh yeh but really he isn't listening as he has a formula of basic products lines in well known brands which will do the job, just. If you step outside his beige formula it buggers him and his office staff on delivery, but works just fine for them on pricing. I made the mistake of accepting his quote on brands but not model detail; believing he had listened to my wants. Then when I started asking for clarification the guilt free price gouging for variations began.

I pointed some of this out the other day feeling like cornered cat. There has been 200% sometimes more on top for his greed, let alone still delivering his beige formula that would have been installed if I had not discovered it. So now they have gone to ground.

I am further along in my build so don't make the mistake I have made, and that is pay them too much. They push and push for more payment and I obliged wanting to keep progress moving. Now there is little owing so if I wanted to pull the pin on pumps, filters, heaters, and chlorinators I can't. If I bought from elsewhere to avoid their gouging, the PB would still get his fill by offering a polite refund for far less than what its worth.

Guess all I have google reviews in my camp. I found this guy via them, he had 9 x 5 stars. I wanted more but between him and few others there wan't much on offer. Unfortunately I found the 12 pools a year PB too late. But I understand now why my PB only has 9 reviews when he builds 50 pools a rear.

Not sure what the solution is besides an honest and fair PB, they seem few and far unfortunately.

OH MY! That is an accident GOING to happen! Tell them to at least hide the ladders so they can get up there!
No lie!!!

Nothing new here other than it rained off and on all night, more expected today, tomorrow and maybe sunday. Water in the mud pit is still about the same level. I did make progress on the deck demolition last night, just have the joists left. I'll finish that up when it's not raining. Funny how everything being wet in the backyard just makes it look like a bomb went off. I'm so OCD that having the backyard under construction with the pool and deck, it drives me nuts. Just keep my eye on the finished project and relaxing in the pool with some adult beverages.

I SO hear you!!! I HAVE to go in early to start setting up my classroom as just knowing how jacked up the furniture and such is drives me nuts. Add to that this year I am at a new school in a classroom that has not be deep cleaned of old stuff since 2007! I am throwing away more than I am keeping but it has to be done as we got ANOTHER new set for this year!

Rained most of last night and this morning. Got the rest of the deck torn out and pumped all the water out of the dig. Was 3’ deep.

Not sure if they will be back Monday. PB said it’s not fun putting in pool panels when it’s muddy.

Well try tromping around surveying 6 miles a day for two weeks with 20 lbs of mud caked on your boots, and climbing ditches and trekking through the woods. That was no fun.

and......??????????????
And left at 7:45 for about 3 hours, then came back for awhile then left then back until 6:00 pm. They are putting down, pavers to make sure the pool walls are level. They only got one side done and part of the end wall. At this rate I won’t be using my pool this year.

They had to fix what they did with the pavers before it rained last week. Hope if it rains Thursday and Friday morning, they won’t have to start over leveling them again.

There are only two guys here. One knows some. The other is new and has no experience. I’m just a little aggravated, I could get more done by myself. Not sure where the owner and his better crew are at. Probably other job sites.

I heard he is now booked out for two years now.
