My son was Pool stored šŸ˜¬

Copper is an effective algaecide. So when using tabs, the FC/CYA ratio is not maintained and the copper keeps the pool algae 'free'. But that only works in regions that you get rain with overflow, you drain the pool for winter, or you have a sand filter that you backwash large volumes each week (normal pool maintenance company practice).

In the southwest, with no rain, likely a cartridge filter, and copious use of trichlor tabs due to warm water, the copper and CYA build quickly.

Clorox seems to always feel the need to find a way to increase their marketing gimmicks.

Thatā€™s why they always feel the need to keep ā€œimprovingā€ their products to make them stand out from all the rest.

Thatā€™s why they add copper and a bunch of other stupid stuff to their tabs.

Thatā€™s why they have 112 different scents for their bleach and they add things to make the bleach ā€œsplashlessā€ and other such nonsense.

Do I really need peach mango pumpkin scented bleach?

Should Clorox encourage people to keep smelling their bleach until they begin to hallucinate?

My son had a pool built a few months ago and he is using the ā€œtake a sample to Lesliesā€ maintenance program lol.

He asked me to take a look at the results and I was very surprised his TA reading is zero. Of course they sold him ā€œalkalinity upā€, aka baking soda at an inflated price. He also bought something to reduce phosphates lol.

Heā€™s returning all of it and Iā€™m going to test his water later today. If my tf100 yields similar TA and PH readings, Iā€™ll come back with questions. šŸ˜
Here are the TF-100 results

FC 16
CC 1.0
TA 40
PH 6.8 (lowest reading on scale)
CYA 180-200 (diluted and doubled)
CH 325

Try to dilute as much as possible and then see what the readings are.

Maybe add baking soda to increase the TA to about 80 to help raise the pH some.

What is the fill water TA?

Well, They were right about 1 thing ā€¦ most of that water has gotta go..

Even a stopped watch is right twice a day. That's better odds that a pool store, but still would have not made that decision based on their results. In the end, that CYA number is just unmanageable and the pool needs a re-start. If that copper number is right, the pool could also benefit from starting over on that as well.

Someone called me?

Yep, I guess so. Sorry this happened, I feel for you and your child. You are doing the right thing...and are in good hands, but you know that...Let your son know that "PoolStored" said "Hello, and to listen to your father."

I just sent Clorox a letter last week asking them if they would make strawberry scented trichlor tabs.

The tabs are being tested by the focus group and it looks good so far.

Just when I thought a generation of kids couldnā€™t get any slower than ODā€™ing by eating tide pods, Clorox will have a new ā€even smarterā€ generation drinking straight bleach! šŸ™„
