Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I try to get mine from Leslies Pools. They are the only ones that carry the 12.5% liquid chlorine. Plus they are having a 15% off sale on all pool chemicals plus an additional $5 off for being a perk member. The only problem I have with them is that they don't order enough. You have to time your purchase with their deliveries. Case in point, I went today to buy a case (since it was on sale). Well, they were out of stock and wouldn't get any in until after the sale was over.

My fall back suppliers are Lowes and Home depot. They carry the 10% solution. I stopped buying from the local grocery stores due to the covid shortages and I didn't care for the lower percentages that were available.

Wow, that's a great price. Maybe I should buy from you and ship to Midland. It still might be cheaper than what I pay locally.
We have been somewhat immune to chlorine shortages, but prices are still up. A year ago I could get 4 gallons of 12.5% for $10. This year the same store sells for $15.

Went by a DFW home Depot and their pool essentials 10% barely had a chlorine smell even though it was only 1.5wks old. Walmart generic 7.5% was 2wks old smelled much stronger at $1 more.
Home Depot stores it outside and I don't know how it's shipped. I'm still 2 weeks out from being able to start my SWG in my new pool.

Reverting back to Ocean State Job Lot this season after picking up 18 cases at various ACE Hardware stores for their $2.99/gal Memorial Day sale last year. It doesn't seem like they were running the same sale at my local Ace. Their gallon jugs were running at $5.99.

OCJL increased prices last season to $4.50, and again this Spring to $4.99. 66% jump in two years, but still the cheapest price around and I'm sure it is much cheaper than if I were still maintaining my pool with BQ products.

I was able to buy it at my ACE several times last year on sale. This year not only has the price not dropped but there is a limit of 4, at least online. If it does go on sale I will have to see if that limit is in place at the store.

I did see that ACE hardware carries it, but it's only 10% and it's $8.59 a gallon! Walmart bleach is 7.5% and is only 121 oz. and it's $5.65 a container. It's weak, just have to buy a lot of it. Leslies has been out of the 12% for the last 2 weeks here, right as pool season is heating up. So I persisted and went to WalMart.com and you can look up by local availability. There is one WalMart across town from me that has their 10% in stock for $4.63 and it's an actual gallon. Will be worth the trip for me!

Walmart usually has a pool area with 10% LC too.

I used 5 month old 10% from HD and it seems to be right at 10% even though smell is not strong. Pool calculator brought it up to exact numbers. $4.50 gal here in NC. Stored outside but in boxes and not in the sun.

If you can store them in a cool dry place, it won't degrade as fast. I know you shouldn't stock up too much but with current prices, when I find something reasonable, I'm going to buy a decent bit knowing that I will use a gallon every 2 days come July and August. For two months, I need 30 gallons, not to mention September which has still been hot the last several years. I've been keeping my gallons in a back corner of the basement.

Is dry important? My cooler area is the garage, but definitely has higher humidity.

I think being out of direct sun is more important. I hang one of those damp rid humidity remover bags in that corner where I store my stuff just to be on the safe side.

I get most of my Bleach at Home Depot DFW (Irving, Tx). I store it in my Garage unless there are extended sub-freezing temps during the winter. Then I move it into the house.

So far, I've not seen any shelf-life/temp/storage issues with either 8.25% or the Home Depot 10% Bleach. My FC tests & doses have always come out very close to the Pool Math calculated results.

I usually stock up when I see my local Home Depot with available stock in the store, in May, to prepare for elevated summer usages. I'll stock up with ~2-3 months stock in the Garage.

During reduced usage months, which is usually November thru mid-late March, I'll usually try to keep 4-6 (four jug) cartons in stock in my Garage.

I've wondered about shelf life/dilution of Bleach when stocking up ~2-3 months ahead during the summer months but as yet I've not seen that issue arise with the Home Depot 10% Bleach product.

There are 2 reasons I try to maintain these stock levels at home:

- In the event a rare SLAM is needed
- Due to the unpredictable stock levels at my local Home Depot store
