Pool Tile

How thick is waterline pool tile suppose to be? We were scheduled for plaster, then the pebbletec certified plaster company pulled off the job because they said our pool tile is not thick enough. It's 1/2 thick plus thinset. Please help me understand whats going on. Thank you

Maybe they meant too thick, 1/2” plus thin set is pretty thick is it a cement hand painted tile?

It's a 3/4"H x 3 1/2"L linear glass tile. Our PB said they would have to tear it all off and put a board of some sort behind it to build it up. I'm hoping they just didn't use enough thinset and thicker thinset will fix it. I'm just so confused.

I’m pretty sure the plaster is usually 3/8”-1/2” thick to go up to your tile so I’m confused as well. Doesn’t sound right.

Post pics of your tile in the pool so we can see your situation.

Those tiles look fine for normal palster although the tile job looks ragged.

Call PebbleTec directly and find out if they have any specifications for tile used.

Looks to me like the plaster company refused due to the builder doing a seriously unacceptable tile job and the plaster company does not want to have anything to do with it until it’s better. The builder probably didn’t want to fess up and instead is blaming the tile not being thick enough to give a reason to remove. It’s possible the builder isn’t comfortable installing that tile properly. Just my thoughts if I had to guess what’s going on here.

Do you have other photos? What’s with the big gap between the coping and start of the tile?

Yeah that is not a good tile job. Note how the tiles are not even at the bottom plus the fact there is no grout in the right side. THEN look at how the tile on the left, top side is pushed up a bit.

I am with Liz in that the plaster people do not want to do the job due to the very poor tile job. :(
