Getting antsy...

New plaster means ph going up fast and often until it cures. Remember that the acid will also push your ta down so do add the next 4lbs and keep a close eye on both of them.
Thank you! Just checked my ph and it’s looking good at 7.5ish. Chlorine was only at 1 with the 20oz from this morning so I added another 20oz. Sitting right at 3 now. Added another 4lbs of baking soda and just brushed everything down. Looking like a nice Sunday afternoon in the pool!

Gnarbrah,

You need to double that FC, get it up to 6. Assuming you will lose 3 FC today, that is going to drop you down to 0 FC. You are asking for algae. You NEVER want to go below the minimum...you have to account for what you lose everyday

My cya all dissolved from the sock. Left it in overnight with the pump running. It was at 30 when I checked a day or so ago. Paperwork says to stay under 50 until my 30 days are up. Should I check it again? Pool math said it should be at 32 going from 0 where it was and adding 4 pounds.
I’ll go ahead and add some more chlorine too!

Give it one more day then retest the CYA. If it still 30 then add enough to get to 40. I say 40 just in case the size of your pool is off. We will work on finding a solid number for your pool size with time.

Okay so lets talk pool volume then. Ready?

-Test pH
-use pool math to see how much acid to add to drop it .4 points.
-add acid
-let pump run 30 mins on high
-retest ph.

How much did it drop? More than you expected then your pool size is smaller than you thought. Less that you expected then your pool size it larger than you thought.

Adjust your pool size up or down 500 gals. Keep adjusting your pool size until the acid drops your ph like pool math says it will. After a couple of 500 gals adjustments you might need to lower the adjusted to 200 gals to really dial it in.

Alright - just tested and it looks like I’m at 8.2 (or is it closer to 8.0?) again for ph. Pool Math said 24oz acid to drop .4 if it’s 15k gallons. I added 24oz and cranked up the pump. I also added 26oz chlorine. Hopefully that won’t skew the ph test?

Ok - just tested after 30 minutes with pump on high. I know the chlorine test isn’t the most accurate but it appears it went up around 2 when pool math said with the 26oz I put in it should go up 1.3

The ph looks like it dropped right at .4? Looks to me like 8.0 to 7.6 or so?

Good! That is what I thought but wanted to make sure.

Now I am going to go just a bit off what some on TFP says for the pH test. I found if I did it inside the house under my stove hood light I got a better reading on the shades of colors. I would hold a white plate behind it and move it back and forth until I felt I knew what color it was. For pH there can be 7.1 if the color is between the two others.

Do the ph Test one more time when the ph goes back up and see if the test is spot on again.

I'll check the ph again later today and/or tomorrow morning and run the same test. Really appreciate the help!
I'll check my CYA later on today and my TA to see where those are hanging out.
Just run all the tests -
Then u can Post em like this
FC
Cc
Ph
Ta
Ch
Cya
After all is said & done you will just mainly worry with FC, cc & ph daily
The rest will be less frequent 👍🏻
Also you don’t seem to be logging test results in PoolMath just additions.
At the bottom of the overview page hit the “+”then hit “log test results” you can put whatever you’re testing- you don’t have to fill them all in - then hit the ✔️ in the top right corner to save. The most recent result from each parameter will now be listed as “current” on the overview cards. So when you go to calculate additions you won’t have to change that.

Good morning - PB came back yesterday to finish painting the deck so I couldn’t get out there to test. Just got done:
Fc - 1.5
Cc - .5
Ph - 8.0 (I think see pic)
Ta - 60
Ch - 325
Cya - 30

I’ll go try to log the results in pool math!

That looks like 7.8 to me.
Dose to 7.6 & see where it lands u
Also add enough liquid chlorine NOW to get to 6ppm - you must stay above minimum for your cya or you will get algae & slamming w/ new plaster is a no no.

🙋‍♂️ I am one who thinks way to much focus is put on the .X of the FC test. Just because we can test it down to .2 with a 25ml sample in no way makes it important. We tend to get way too hung up on the 2 point 5 or the 8 point 2. The 2 or the 8 is the important part and it's where my feeble brain shuts off. It's either enough, or not enough FC.

Ok - so I just went out and dumped 36oz of acid and got the pic below (after 15 minutes of pump on high). I agree the first test this morning does look 7.8ish. Poolmath said that amount in a 15k pool will drop it .6. New test looks about right?

I also dumped 32oz chlorine in and re ran the good test with the powder. Cl went up to 3.5. Increase of 2 from the first test. Poolmath said 2.1 in a 15k pool.

Is it safe to say I’m looking at a roughly 15k gallon volume?

I’ll dump some more chlorine in now to bump it up. Don’t want algae! Question though - why does the manufacturer say to keep new plaster levels at 1-3?
