Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Seems that is 2020 Dec 31? I’m surprised it still works effectively.
The first two digits are the year (20) and the next 3 digits are the day of the year with Jan 1 being day 1. So yours is 336 which I believe is Dec 31 since 2020 was a leap year and Feb 29 was part of it.
Thanks for clarifying how to read that, I was confused. Do all manufacturers follow this date model? Also, I assume you mean Dec 1 and not Dec 31 if it's day 336?

WalMart seems to have the best price at $4.60 in many areas but stock is tight. This weekend I picked up 8 gallons of Pool Essentials 10% for $5/gallon with a March 1 date at Ollie’s for anyone who has one nearby.

Went to Home Depot and their stock (stored outside) was $6 and Clorox bleach was $7 a gallon. 🤨
The WalMart in Katy TX had what literally looked like hundreds of gallon jugs on the shelf for $4.60. It was an aisle filled on both sides about 3 jugs deep. Most had mfg dates in Jan 2022. I kept searching and found several with March 2022 mfg. date which I purchased.

I fired the pool guy and started buying liquid chlorine at the end of last summer, and right now is the first time I've struggled to consistently find liquid chlorine in the Houston area. The Kroger on Voss & San Felipe carried Pool Essentials 1 gallon for $3.79 until recently, they don't stock anymore. The two nearest Home Depots to me were both out of liquid chlorine yesterday, and the nearest Walmart was out as well. I just ordered six jugs of Pool Essentials at $4.60/each from a Walmart a bit further away, hoping the order doesn't get canceled.

Find a Pinch a Penny Pool store near you. They have 2.5 gal jugs of LC for $9.88. You have to purchase the jug the first time then you just bring in the empty and pick up a full jug. After 10 jugs you get one free. So you get the cost of the jug back after the first 10 purchases. They refill their tanks weekly, especially during the summer. Although you have to handle a 2.5 gal jug it is mainly fresh.

There is a NATCO distributor up in Spring TX that provides 5 gal jugs to the public (it is only open to public 3 days a week). Last time I checked they were cheaper then PaP pool store but you had to handle the 5 gal jug. Again, you have to purchase the 5 gal jug the first time.

Thank you! Unfortunately both of those are a pretty long trek from me, but I might try Pinch a Penny if Walmart/Home Depot reliability doesn't improve soon.

There's also a Leslies 5 minutes away but they are spendy...

At some point I'll probably upgrade to a SWG (VS pump and robot cleaner are also on the list), but I'm giving the wallet a break for now after shelling out for a new heater and filter last year.

I get 12.5% for $6.56 per gallon. I saw that Walmart has the 10% at $4.80 per gallon. If I use the pool bleach cost calculator in pool math, does it account for the percent difference in chlorine?

In Plano, Texas the new regular price for the 2.5 gallon container at Pinch a Penny is now $14.98 (~$6/gallon), though this weekend it is discounted by 10%. I paid less than $10 for the same 2.5 gallon container (~$4/gallon) just a few weeks ago. The local Home Depot is selling their 10% product for $4.50/gallon. Looks like I'll be going to Home Depot for my chlorine this summer.
Ouch - I just called mine (also DFW area) and they are at $14.98 as well. So much for buying 4 jugs a few weeks ago and thinking that would be a wise move for the season.

I just answered my own question. Sorry for the temporary blindness. In the app when I’m using the bleach calculator it states that the concentration of bleach is standardized to 100% 🙂

Hi Herman Thank you for the great information had no idea about PaP and NATCO. Question with NATCO is there a website that you have an account or is it a walk in? I tried to lookup the address but I was not able to find them. Thank You in advance.

menards has 12.5% for 2.99/ after their sale price and rebate. mfg date march/april unfortunately does not look like they will have the BOGO sale again.
just picked some up today, $3.66 a gallon before rebate, they only had about 50 gallons left.
Only 5 weeks old, so fairly fresh

Hello Noe -the company is called NAPCO. They are in Spring Tx. It is $2.15 a gallon for 12% bleach. Best deal you will find.

NAPCO is the name. You can buy a 5 gallon water jug at wal mart and NAPCO will put a safety label on it. Much easier to use as it has a spout on it.
