How do we adjust the amount of chlorine being made?

Pentair Intellichlor IC-40
We have the Intellichlor and I just tested my water and it's at 7. How do we dial that down? We did o/b so we didn't get a great tutorial in using it.

As you have the Intellicenter, you should have access to the SWCG setting via your computer or phone.

How much FC is the SWCG generating per day right now? Use Poolmath to determine that.

N,

An FC of 7 might be just fine... What is your current CYA level???

I never worry when my FC is a little high. I only worry about the low side.. If you try to keep your FC at an exact number you will drive yourself crazy..

I try to keep my FC at my target or higher. I never try to keep my FC between my minimum and my target.. I look at the minimum number as a cliff that I never want to get close to fall off.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Effects of Adding Chemicals in your Poolmath app. Touch the Hamburger menu upper left.

What you are showing is the Effects of Adding screen.

Put in what % you have the SWCG cell set at and the hours per day run. It will tell you how much FC you are adding.

I'm having a hard time getting CYA right. When the guy did start up he said he added about 9lbs. I watched him pour it in the skimmer and I'm doubtful it was that much. He then threw a floater in. I was told to be careful with the floater so it wouldn't make it go to to much so I took it out. When I texted CYA after the weekend there wasn't any yet. I put the floater back in. About a week and a half ago I tested it again and it hadn't changed so I added 4 lbs of granuals. Tested again a couple days after they dissolved and I was at 40. Pool Math said to add 2lbs so I did and tested today and it said 30. I don't get it. I'm also scared to add too much because I don't want problems but I don't understand why it went lower after adding more. Can the higher chlorine level today make that happen?

If you add CYA, it is in the water. I would not add anymore right now until you get a handle on the testing.

When you do the CYA test, try this next time.

Once you have your solution ready, back to the sun, etc. Fill the vial to a line, say 80, lower the vial to your waist level and glance for the dot, you see it, add solution to the 70 line, glance, see it, repeat until you no longer see it with a glance. Then use the CYA value one step above the line you read. So if you stopped at 50, use 60 ppm CYA.

The vial is in logarithmic scale. So it is not viable to interpolate between the lines. Just use the whole numbers, such as 50, 40, 30, ....

So this is what my pool app says.

We didn't adjust anything. We just let it go at the defaults. I added 50% to pool math. Hopefully that's the right number. This is what it says.

So you are adding that much FC each day. That will probably be about right come late May, but right now you can cut that in half and keep testing to see if you are generating enough at the lower setting.

I think you ought to find out from your pool guy "9 lbs of what" . If it was CYA it shouldn't have been added to the pool chemistry that way. It'll take time till it clears the filter. Do not add anymore until you know your CYA level. For your location a CYA of 70-80 is what you need for the SWCG.

It was CYA. That was back in mid February. It's definitely dissolved by now. It didn't register in the CYA test at all.

Are my assumptions correct?
Entirely up to you. I run mine a few hours each day in the winter and up to 6 or 7 hours each day in the summer. If you have Time of Use energy costs, you might consider not running the pump during those times.
