New Fiberglass install in Clarksville TN (Dig started Nov 16, 2020)

I dumped the cya water from the bucket into the pool this morning but i still have lots dissolving in the socks. I stirred up the pool good with my kayak paddles. Here are my new readings today. The CYA result probably isn’t accurate, still learning on that test. It could be anywhere from 40-20, hard to tell exactly when the dot disappeared! Snow is gone but high is 42 today, we will see if PB shows up to work today. Thanks!

ahhhhh that CYA test again....................oh how I hate this test..................so here is my way of doing it to keep from going CRAZY!!! The main word for this test is GLANCE...........as in only GLANCE in to see the googly eye. Don't "look" for it..........just GLANCE in then away. If you see the googly eye at a GLANCE then pour to the next line. Go line to line until you don't see the googly eye with a GLANCE.

Tested chlorine and cya today. I added some liquid chlorine to try to keep it at 5. Cya still dissolving in socks in bucket and I squeeze and add to pool daily. PB just showed up today, the high is climbing to 51 degrees today 👍52F78A91-79B9-4E77-829A-ED956ECED24E.jpeg

Everything looks good, I just got home and checked it out in the dark. PB told my wife they will pour concrete on Monday and then be finished next Wednesday. I made a change last week, they usually put one big pool railing in the middle of the steps that hangs out over the water. We just wanted a smaller railing on one side of the steps. The steps are wide and we thought everyone would like sitting on them a lot. We didn’t want the middle railing in the way. So we changed from the bottom pic to the top pic. 38FE72B2-5825-4EF1-9B2E-F8D7BEE3511B.jpeg

Here are some new pics from this morning
Why is the conduit not buried? That really can't be left that way because it will not allow for the concrete thickness to be correct. That is where the concrete will end up failing eventually because it will only be a few inches thick. Also, are they planning on adding rebar to the decking areas before pouring the concrete?

It looks like they are planning to cover the electrical conduit in the concrete. I told them I didn’t want my plumbing encased in concrete where it comes out by the equipment pad. There are pieces of rebar hooked to the underside of the fiberglass pool lip all around the edge of the pool. I’m worried about the cold weather Monday. High of 45 degrees and low of 28 Monday night.

As it is laid out now they will be covering the conduit in concrete so you won't see it. The problem is there will not be the correct concrete thickness where the conduit is and it will be weakened.

The entire deck area and sidewalk should have a grid of rebar. The rebar should also be tied into the pool bonding wire. Without the rebar and bonding the concrete will not have the needed strength or electrical protection. I would ask @jimmythegreek for advice.

@jimmythegreek Here are the pics of my bonding and rebar. The copper wire connects everything together. Do you see any issue with the PB burying the electrical conduit in the concrete? Should I just build a 2x4 box around the plumbing and stake it myself before they pour the concrete, I definitely don’t won’t those pipes in the concrete. Concrete pour is scheduled for Monday with a high of 45 and low of 25 Monday night. Thanks!

I think your concerns show a lack of confidence in your builder. You would be better served to talk candidly with him and listen carefully to his answers.

I would be an offended PB if you told me you were consulting with a bunch of pool owners on the internet and not asking me the questions directly.

I note that the pool sidewall is bulging out in the middle (by the skimmer) which has cause the skimmer to lean over and is not truly vertical/horizontal. You need to get this fixed before they pour the concrete. Looks like the wall needs to come in an inch or two (by getting rid of that wood brace across the pool?) to get the skimmer level and the wall straight.

The bonding looks okay as to the way they tied it in. I'm not a fan of the conduit in the slab, that wouldnt fly here and I wouldn't allow it. I also don't like the thickness unless using high strength mix and I add fiber mesh to all concrete.
Concrete is a funny thing with pools. Even a bad job looks good in the beginning. After some time (could be years) it will crack where you don't want it to. I rarely do concrete decks (pavers 99%) but if I do I use 5" slabs and 4000psi fibermesh concrete to offset the loss of strength of adding some water on site. Also heavy on control joints I cut them in with a circular saw and make patterns before full cure.
Duraleigh makes a great point, have this discussion with your builder, and let him know you concerns. And dont forget to have them box in those pipes, it's a terrible idea to concrete equipment lines into a slab

Thanks for all the feedback! I’m a teacher and high school basketball coach so I am have been super busy (3 games this week) and i’m not here to talk to the PB or see any of the work. Our PB is highly recommended with great reviews online and several friends and coworkers have great pools from him as well. I will be sure that they box in the plumbing. They also do a great job on control joints on my friends pools that i’ve seen. They have been in business for 30 years and manufacture the fiberglass pool and install it. They take care of everything - electrical, concrete, the whole thing. They also charge you exactly what’s on the contract - no hidden fees, taxes, or extra charges. So I am very happy, just want to be sure I take advantage of my opportunity to make improvements with help of the experts here. It seems that they have 2 crews that install the pools and I got the old timers that are set in there ways it seems. But they were not worrried when the pool got bowed out during water fill ... and after they drained a little and backfilled it, it looks perfect. The pool form actually has a slight “V” shape on the sides so it is perfectly level on both sides. I will be sure to talk to them Monday morning, and make sure everything is to my liking. They like all the deer jerky i’m been making them and seem to respect the fact that I’m 6’8” was a former college basketball player. Lol! This site has helped me choose the VS pump & SWG and get my TF-100 testing kit & Warrior SE robot. So I feel i’m definitely ahead of the game! Already become an expert testing my water and adding liquid chlorine. Got my CYA up too by soaking/squeezing it in socks in a bucket and adding it to the pool. Thanks again for all the feedback and suggestions!

You are WAY ahead of the game, but just wait until it’s all finished and your pool water looks better than anything in their brochures. They may even want to come back and put yours in their next brochure, and maintaining said pretty water will be a breeze the TFP way from day one. That’s the true magic of this site. You’ll be coming back to help others and enjoy the wonderful community, not because you need us for anything. :)

I got my neighbor’s leaf net and scrubber to clean the rocks and debris out of the pool. It’s sunny out today and i just finished getting the big debris out. I just now dropped in my new Warrior SE for the 1st time. I might sit back, relax, and have a beverage 😎
