Hello,

We have just started our build in South Texas. We are doing a pool with a sun shelf, spa and a swim up bar. We are also adding a pavilion with a fireplace and summer kitchen. Our builder estimates that everything should take about 4 months. We are currently on day 3 of excavation.

I am am posting pictures so far. As you can see we are basically using our entire back yard for this...which is fine since it faces due west and is essentially unusable from 10am on. Looking forward to creating a refreshing space.

That is going to be one awesome, useable yard now! LOVE IT!

Now lets talk details:

-depths

-skimmer and returns-number and placement

-equipment-models for the pump, filter, etc

-care for pool-how do you think you will be adding chlorine?

Kim:kim:

That pool is going to be a wonderful addition to the blazing Texas sun!

Here are some of the specifics for the pool.

Pool- 47’x15 ½ Spa-7’ x 7’ TotalGallons- 13,100 Depths-9” to 3’ to 5’

Pool Structure: Pool will be gunite withsteel reinforced construction; 12" bond beams, and floor 6-8".All plumbing will be appropriate size PVC Schedule 40. Six inches (6") ofwater line tile. All steel will be ½” rebar 10 inches on center.

Pentair Brand Pool Equipment:

Pump(s): (1) Pentair Intelliflo3HP for main filter pump

Water feature pump: Pentair2HP single speed.

Filters: Pentair 60 sqft QuadDE filters.

Heater: Pentair 400K BTU Heater.

Air Blower: 1 ½ HP SilencerBlower (for spa bubbles)

Cleaner: Excluded

LED Color Pool/ Spa Lights: (3) LED Color Pentair Globrite lights- (1) inpool, (1) on tanning ledge, (1) in spa

Controls: Easy Touch w/ screenlogic (smart phone controls)

EquipmentPad: Concreteequipment pad sized to allow for listed equipment.

Water Feature: 20’ long, 2’ highsheer wall with (3) 24” sheers and capped with Travertine coping and faced withstone veneer to match fireplace and kitchen.

The 3' depth sticks out to me. That is not deep enough to do a full crawl stroke when swimming. It also does not come up very high on your body. 3'5" is about a shallow as we say to go for these reasons. Measure where 3' will hit you and go from there.

Kim:kim:

Looks like it will be a great place to relax and cool off! I agree with Kim that 3 feet isn’t deep enough. They may also be a little variation on the finished shell, so it could end up being a little less than 3 foot. Looking forward to following the rest of your build.

I’m 90% certain that I am going with this tile but I am having a difficult time with the plaster color. I am leaning toward Montego Bay but my husband says it is too green. He wants Barbados Blue but I think it is too blue for this tile. I pulled samples of Grenadine Gray and St. Martin Shade and I like those

St. Martin Shade, Montego Bay, Aruba sky (definitely not doing that one) and Grenadine Gray.

LOVE the tile! That is my favorite size and shape. Make sure to look into what color of mortar they will use as that will really change how the tile looks.

Plaster-I will tell you that the darker you go on plaster the greater the chance of mottling and/or streaking. It all depends on the skills of the installers. You can do a search in the while box at the top of the page to see some examples.

Kim:kim:

I do not want to make a mistake in the name so will do it this way-The first pic above, top left (darkest color of them all) would be the main one to mottle.

Know ANY color can mottle/streak/be blotchy. The darker colors show it more. It all comes down to the skill of the installers. Ask to see some of their past work and go from there.

Grout-do you want each tile to POP=white. Tiles to blend into one another=med. gray. They should have some grout sticks for you to play with to see what you like the best. I will help you pick if you use the sticks.

Thanks Kim,

we still can’t decide. My husband likes Barbados blue and I want either Montego Bay or the St. Martin Shade. Our sun shelf is pretty prominent so I want something that looks good in 9 inches of water. He says we should go with the Grenadine Gary bc he doesn’t want any green (Montego Bay has a hint of green) and I think Barbados is too blue.

I think I want each tile to po but not sure what will look best. I will have to see about the color sticks. I found this tile on the internet and then went searching for it locally.

They seem to be making pretty good progress in just over a week.

OH MY! That IS very pretty!! We HAVE to find out that color. Okay so where did you find that picture? Maybe if you can find the source we can back track it to the plaster color. That is your color for sure!

KIm:kim: (going hunting for that color or one as close to it as possible)

Gunite just finished....it’s starting to look like a pool.
