Borate Acid Treatment - Efflorescence patches in grout lines

I chalked it up to just not noticing it before since my levels look great and water is crystal clear. However today I walked out by the pool and see there is a white haze on everything above the water line and especially the grout lines. I need help to figure out what I did wrong.. Did I...

Borate Acid Treatment - Efflorescence patches in grout lines

@mknauss Yes everything is underwater and I noticed it this morning on my tanning ledge. My CH levels hover around 280-350 from the pool stores. Last month I tested with my 2023 expired kit and it read 350 so I figured it was close and not too high. I did see where it says run your pool...

Borate Acid Treatment - Efflorescence patches in grout lines

@mknauss Most of my regents were expired minus new DPD powder & R-0871. I have a new test kit on the way. The other tests came this morning from my local pool store and I also brought a sample to Leslie's just to compare the two.

Borate Acid Treatment - Efflorescence patches in grout lines

Update: Tested water and everything looks good. Just curious if I should be concerned, I haven't noticed it spreading. It is just staying on the few spots around the pool grout. FC 5.7 CC 0.0 PH 7.4 TA 88 CH 335 Stabilizer 73 Salt 3400

Borate Acid Treatment - Efflorescence patches in grout lines

Fyi... I have never had Borate in my pool before so I just wanted to start to keep things easier. I balanced my 22,000 gallon gunite pool w/ SWG to the recommended specs and added Granular Boric Acid(from Duda Energy) per Pool Math recommendation(approx 48 lbs) I wanted to go below the 50ppm...

    New pool waterline cleaning

Hi! We have a new concrete pool with some 1x2 glass tile around the waterline. I understand that it is more susceptible to scum and scale buildup than ceramic tile. Everything looks good now and I religiously keep the water chemicals in line. My question is what technique or chemicals are...

Low levels of Combined Clorine - problem?

Ok sounds good, going to the pool store today!

Low levels of Combined Clorine - problem?

Thank you Jim, that makes me feel better! Yes, I understand. I was experimenting with the Heat Pump because it doesn't run efficiently early in the morning and works best at 65gpm. So that's why I was messing around with the "pool, pool high, pool low" settings. I learned something now. :-)

Low levels of Combined Clorine - problem?

I had been playing with my pump schedule times this past week to be more efficient and didn't realize the SWG only works during the main "Pool" schedule. :-/ My Chlorine level dropped to about 1.0 before I figured it out and adjusted the pool run times back. It's now raising back and currently...

Question about new pool & CA

Ok, thank you both! Just trying to get a grip on proper adjustment technique and balance. So it's not necessarily precise chemical ranges, it's the CSI that is most important. Correct?

Question about new pool & CA

Ok thank you, I don't know much about pool chemicals so I will take your word for it. I am a pretty precise guy so when I see values I try to stick to them. Do the rest of the chemical ranges have some "extra latitude" in them as well?
