Adding significant calcium chloride each year

Located in Kansas City. We do get a decent amount of precipitation. Just checked my salt content and am 900ppm, too. Getting ready to add a bunch of salt! Just surprised how low these get but I might just not be making sense of it.

    Should I redo this plumbing?

Hi Jim. My water is pretty darn dirty at the start of each season because my cover is not solid. It just feels like I would benefit from pulling that water from the bottom and dumping it on top to help speed up the clearing process. In addition, when I am draining the pool for the winter, I...

Adding significant calcium chloride each year

I have an older pool with a concrete/plaster bottom and fiberglass sides. We drain our pool below the skimmers each winter. I am finding it a little surprising that I need to add a significant amount of calcium chloride each year. I believe I was at around 100ppm after I filled for this...

    Should I redo this plumbing?

I have intakes to my pump from a main drain and 2 skimmers. When I replaced the pump I just made adjustments to the existing plumbing to get it lined up with the new pump inlet. When needed, I struggle being able to run the pump on the main drain only and am wondering if it would be worthwhile...

    Clorox XtraBlue Mistake??

Good to know. Yeah, I knew better. Work got in the way of my private life and that's no way anyone should live!

    Clorox XtraBlue Mistake??

I hadn't seen this format of Pool Math. I always use the web version but just downloaded the app. Thanks. I tested CYA again and it is around 90 right now. Don't know how much of this I can attribute to the XtraBlue and how much from the stabilizer in the socks but it appears to have more...

    Clorox XtraBlue Mistake??

I have a 29k gallon saltwater pool in KC (concrete bottom/fiberglass sides). Took off the cover last night. Tested the water. No CYA read. PH around 7.4. CH 220. TA 60. I have a source for liquid chlorine so went there today but there pump wasn't working. The guy that was helping me said...

    Jandy ePump - Controller

Read a bunch of threads but can't find the answer I'm looking for. Bought a brand new Jandy VSSHP220AUT variable speed pump from an individual. Soon learned variable speed pumps require a controller. I see the one Jandy offers but see there are other options. I don't really need to automate...

Pump Struggling? Air infiltrating? w/ VIDEO

Pump is roughly 1' above the water level. Couple more things that I just had occur. I turned off the breaker to the pump and somehow air pressure shot out of the skimmer and had enough force to pop the lid and turn the basket upside down. In addition, when I turned the breaker back on the...

Pump Struggling? Air infiltrating? w/ VIDEO

Would love some advice on what experts are seeing here. Earlier this year I posted about my pump not being able to keep a full reservoir when running on the main drain only. After input, I feel the pump is losing some of its power and was unable to lift a full column of water from the main...

Main Drain Only Creates Starving Pump - VIDEO LINK INCLUDED

It just made sense to pull water from low and dump it on top. I feel that if I am pulling from the skimmers it isn't cleaning the water down low as well. It is pulling from high and dropping high. Is the consensus different on this? The pump wearing out is definitely something to consider...

Main Drain Only Creates Starving Pump - VIDEO LINK INCLUDED

I proposed this question last year and looked for an exposed leak through recommended methods and didn't locate anything. I would love some additional input on potential causes of this. Here is what I know. 1. I opened up the pool for the season and ran it off the main drain only because the...

CYA Dipped - FC solid - Algae set in

Have been testing chlorine regularly and generator has been producing like it should and FC has stayed around 3-5ppm consistently. We are having some very hot days in Kansas City right now so we were paying extra attention to the pool. My wife tested Cya and it had dipped to 30. Way out of...
