Above ground skimmer float pops out of the water, above water line, pump still running

Weird problem. I clean my filter and skimmer basket, replace everything, and all is normal. A thin layer of water is flowing robustly into the skimmer. Pump is working normally. Next day I go out, and the skimmer float is above the surface of the water. Pump is still working normally. What...

Added 3/4 gal muriatic acide in 3 steps (1/4 gal each time) since I posted. Have dissolved about 14 3" tabs of trichlor since I posted. Have...

Ok, walmart has 25lb ice melt (snow joe) calcium chloride crystals for just $11.26 with free ship-to-store. 2x of those is 50lb for $22.52. In the swim has CH increaser 45lb for $65.99 by comparison. That includes free shipping. PoolMath says to go from my 130 to your recommended minimum of 200...

    cal-hypo cloudiness Ph 8.1

Thanks! I did not know the tri-chlor pucks were acidic. https://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html says my TA should be 100. Is 110 close enough or is that 10 points a lot. Also, good to know it's a particulate that my filter will eventually remove. Thanks again.

SLAM question--FC shock level and lower or shock level minimum

So I read Pool School - SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain and makes sense. My CYA is 35 and I've shocked my pool to 14. I understand that I am consuming CL to clear the pool. I understand that I should check between hourly and semi-daily. Question is, do I want to shock it to 14, check it later...

Test CYA in the sun or shade?

I was testing my CYA today. It's been low all season, and i've been chlorinating with trichlor to raise it. And it's been cloudy a lot, and i'm not needing a lot of trichlor so it's taking a while. Anyway, i am getting close on my CYA. I was testing it, in the shade, under an umbrella, and it...
