Need some advice for using Muriatic Acid

Due to my water and climate conditions in my area I have become much more of an expert on muriatic acid than I would like. Now that the pool is reaching ideal levels my use has calmed down, but I put in 30-35 gallons a few years ago. Anyhow, I second what mknauss posted above. Gradually dump it...

High CYA in drought area … alternatives to draining?

How high is your CYA, and do you have a sand filter? When I bought our house with a pool with sky high CYA draining a significant portion of the pool was the only feasible method to reduce CYA. But if you are only a bit high the regular backwashing of your sand filter will accomplish the same...

    Rodents and pool umbrella

At the end of last season my pool umbrella started getting chewed on by a rodent of some type. There was a gradually increasing number of holes at the bottom of the pool umbrella, with the umbrella closed. It actually looked like it was getting shot with a shotgun, but the holes were gradually...

    Organic staining in spillover spa

It did not do anything, but I left it on for 5-10 min. I have not tried it for 1-2 hours like the pucks.

    Organic staining in spillover spa

Our pool has had significant stains in the spillover spa since we purchased the home and accompanying pool 2 years ago. I paid very little attention to he spa, since we almost never use it. I assumed that it was mineral staining, but none of the stain testing made any change so I let it be. By...

First time fill.. TA off the charts. Help?

I was in your shoes about a year ago. Just filled up the pool, fill water TA of 350. I also had high CA to worry about, but that only meant keeping a close eye on CSI. Yes, I dumped in about 30 gallons of acid last summer and never got TA as low as I wanted. But now, a year later, my pool seems...

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

Warm panels means not enough flow - I love that sensible response. Unfortunately it was cloudy and windy last night, and is supposed to be the same tonight, so the panels would be cool regardless. Won't be able to check until tomorrow to see if the flow is enough.

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

At work, so cannot tell for certain, but it was right about 8 psi. I can play with numbers to see what it takes to keep it closed. If the valve is open am I getting less water flow, and thus less heating?

Bubbles in return - is this a problem?

Hi all, My old single speed pump died, so I have been adjusting to a new VS pump over the past few weeks. I have noticed a massive amount of bubbling coming from a single return - the one on the far side of the pool from the equipment pad. Researching this site and a little experimenting is...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

One other aspect of solar that may influence your decision. I live in the high desert, so we are a bit colder than you. I have solar heat with propane backup - which I only use on the spa. The solar does a good job of heating all summer, but it takes much of the day to do it. Morning to evening...

    TA too high for borates?

Thanks for the help. Borates are in. My pool is the perfect size, a 55# bucket puts it at a 50.

    TA too high for borates?

Hi all, I have been working for a year to get my water levels under control following a drain-refill thanks to the previous owners puck habits. Our fill water has extremely high CA and TA levels. Thanks to refilling with softened water the CA level is now acceptable (500). However, I continue...

    Leak at valve junction

Wanted to report a successful conclusion to this episode. The water weld arrived and I went to apply it to the leak. It was very tough to put it on properly. There was a coupling right against the valve, so essentially no space to work the epoxy in to. Anyhow, I mixed up the epoxy and tried to...

Seeking advice on solar cover for odd shaped pool

And allowing one person to take off the cover is another big reason to go to the solar roller method.
