    Question on pressure

Yeah, paint is flaking in some areas. Prepping and repainting isn't something I ever want to do again.

    Question on pressure

thanks for the responses, folks. I'll bump the FC up to 12...and wait. Anxious because we have guests visiting next week. Too cold to swim, but would be nice to have somewhat clear water. I didn't open the pool at all last summer and that could be adding to gunk levels.

    Question on pressure

PH lowered to 7.2 prior to SLAMing, per instructions. Haven't checked since. Alk 200 CYA 25 (added 7.5 lbs of stabilizer this week) Been keeping the Chlorine at 10 CC is 0.5 (I have NEVER seen a CC reading over 1.0) OCLT is 1.0 or less Had a full day of bright sunshine today. Chlorine dropped...

    Question on pressure

Is there a "normal" pressure for a sand filter? I've been SLAMing for a week, with no improvement to green water. Visibility is approx 3.5 feet. After backwashing, my pressure is 10-12 psi and flow out the returns seems good. If I take in water only from one skimmer and a vacuum port located...

    Chemical levels

    Thanks. Then I'm perfect.

    Chemical levels

Read the post of revised chemical levels for different kinds of pools. Wondered what your thoughts are on Clayton-Lambert stainless steel/concrete bottom (painted) pools.

    SLAMing

When testing results in passing the OCCT and CC tests, but the water is still cloudy, what does the continued addition of large amounts of chlorine do to clear the water? How long to go before looking for a different (non algae) cause of the cloudiness? Could extended and overuse of DE in a...

    Inefficient filtering

Been slamming for over 2 weeks, with little improvement in cloudiness. There are lots of bubbles in the pump basket, sand filter and out the return lines. Pressure stays steady for days, even after backwashing (milky wastewater). Two high skimmers, 1 vacuum suction line 3 ft below surface, no...

    circulation probs

Have just finished 2 weeks of SLAM. CC 0.5 (it was never above 1.5), and passes OCLT. Water still cloudy, perhaps 5 ft vert vis. PH isn't accurate while SLAMing; how about Alkalinity? Reads 200 now. Circulation has always been a prob. New Hayward Super Pump and motor (1HP, I think) in 2011...

    PH question

    So, aeration will increase PH?

    Cloudy blue

Finally, success! After over a hundred gallons of LC, the water is clear and it passes the tests for stopping SLAM. To be honest, I had my doubts, but perseverance paid off. The other major factor was that I retired as an airline pilot. For over 20 yrs, I would go to work with a clean pool...

    Cloudy blue

I have read SLAM many times. My takeaway: as there is no CC, there is not an algae problem. the only thing depleating the FC is sunlight. Thinking my filter was dirty, I changed the 2 yr old sand 2 days ago. No improvement in filtering. I suspect that whatever is suspended in the water is...

    Cloudy blue

So here are today's results. PH-7.5, FC-7.4, CC-0, Alk-150, CYA-30. Been trying to keep the FC above 10 for a week. CC has never been measurable, even when FC is 0-1. No chlorine or ammonia smell. No change in appearance of water. Now that sun is up, that FC will drop like a rock. Just...

    Cloudy blue

Over past month, pool has gone from emerald green, to lime green, to mostly clear (after adding Super Floc), to cloudy blue. Have used about 54 lbs of calhypo, and at least 50 gal of 10% liquid. What settles to the bottom is a very fine white silt. Is that algae that has been bleached white...

    chlorine wierdness

What does it mean when both free and total chlorine levels are zero? This, after adding 54# of cal-hypo and 16 gal of LC over past month. Water is still cloudy, backwash is cloudy but not green. I've heard that too much chlorine can "overwhelm" test kits and result in bad readings.
