Yet another Texas pool build!

Love the shower! We'll be looking into one after the pool build. $50 only? Where did you get it?

You introduced us to the egg and we started looking into them. Considering a small Kamado Joe to go next to the grill and see how we like the ceramic.

Shower is awesome. I also wonder where you got it and if I can still go pick it up on clearance. Did you do the plumbing yourself?

I agree that 73 is too cold. We've been using our solar cover and heat pump, but 82 was even a bit cold for me today. I set it really high the other day at 88, and that was great. I'm a big big baby.

Soooo nice!

Thanks I am really happy with how it is turning out!

Nice shower! [emoji6]

Thanks! I remember you pointed me to it. I just now got around to putting it together.

Looks great!!
My hose reel cart broke last night, how do you like yours? It looks like it matches my patio set.

I really like it. The funny thing is we have two that looks like this. One we got at Costco and it auto winds itself but it uses water to do it and it would dump water all over the deck. I have it in my front flower bed and have the discharge hose going to some roses so it uses the water wasted to water plants. The one on the deck manually winds and it is the best one I have ever had for ease of rolling up the hose. Lowes had it on sale a couple weeks ago for $39 which wasn't too bad. Plus it looks nice which is a positive.

The shower is cool. May have to look into one of those. :)

We got it because it was cheap plus I wanted the kids to have a way to rinse off their feet before they get in the pool. We still have tons of grass and they like to get out and chase each other so I hope it keeps the grass out of the pool to the best it can.

Nice set up! Now hand some cute towel hooks by the shower and you are good to go!

Kim

haha we have been hanging the towels over the railing and clipping them there with towel clips. It has been working so far.

So what makes the Green Egg so much different (and sooooo expensive)?

It is a hard thing to justify honestly. I think the great thing about it for me is it makes it so easy to get consistent cooking results. The ceramic is so thick on it it retains heat insanely well. It is pretty easy to cook low and slow for hours and keep the temperature constant. I get constant comments how good the food is. For ribs I have had at least 5 people tell me they are best ribs they have ever had. It makes it hard to eat ribs at a restaurant now. I can cook a brisket for 12 hours with a very small amount of charcoal. I don't know the competitors that well so I can't say how it differs. I do know they have an amazing warranty if you are the original purchaser and that is why I think it is so expensive. If it ever cracks or anything else happens it has a lifetime warranty. I know they actually honor it too. So I think that is why it is almost double of the ones you see at Costco etc... They are still pretty expensive if you get a knock off. For example the one I saw at costco was still $600 i think. I would rather pay for the warranty because as I found out they do crack sometimes. It is ceramic and the stresses of being outside and cooking for long periods can crack them. At least you would have piece of mind knowing they would replace the part.

If you know someone who has one talk them into cooking for you. I am sure like me they are always looking for a reason to cook on it.

Emersondad last year posted about the shower. Lowes had them on clearance and you had to have it shipped. I think now they are no longer available. I have had it in my dining room since last fall and was waiting for my PB to be done before I put it together.

I think the Kamado Joe is pretty good and has a lot of following like the green egg does. Let me know how it does.

The shower I am going to hook up to the hose bib. It only has cold water. I just have it so the kids can rinse off grass etc...

I wish my pool was that warm. It wasn't bad once I got in but it was still too cold for me. I guess it is like going swimming in barton springs.

That shower is great! I've learned so much reading these builds--thanks for taking the time to share!

No problem :)

So we managed to do more shopping for the pool and our backyard. We went and got a conversation set that is up on our deck. We can sit out there and have coffee or talk on nice evenings. (the pool in the background is our neighbor's pool).

I also got a small fire pit for wood that we can use to roast marshmellows etc... We also got some adirondack chairs to go around the fire pit. At this point I think I am about done buying stuff. We have quite a bit of seating now if people come over. I am pretty thrilled with the pool and the spaces we now have for entertaining. It really does make our back yard more usable. (The fire pit isn't assembled yet and I am sick of cutting up boxes haha).

Nice furniture! Where did you get it?

Lowes. We ended up spending a bit more and getting a nicer set for the deck that has sunbrella fabric. They were on sale for I think $100 off of normal price. They were still a bit spendy for us. I am hoping we spend a lot of time out there even if we aren't swimming. Another funny thing is we went to Chair King. Let me tell you I feel like I am in the wrong business. That was some EXPENSIVE furniture! The cheapest conversation set they had was $2000. Of course we saw one we liked that was $5000. It was crazy! We went to another store that had some really nice chairs like the ones by the fire pit but it looked like they were made out of tech deck kind of material. I loved them until I realized they were $600/each. We just decided plastic was fine for us haha!

Here is a link to the loveseat on the deck... They have a bunch of other pieces. The sale we got at the store was the loveseat/table set and the two chairs as one sale.

What are your rates for nightly stays??! Umm, you have a resort - in your own backyard! All is beautiful!

Suz

Thank you Suz! I am super excited for summer to get here! We are having people over for Easter so that is my goal to get done by then. Hopefully it is warm. I just have to assemble the fire pit and I need to get my weber grill down off the deck and cleaned up. Plus tear down about a gazillion more boxes grr...

Thanks Umm! Yes, I think plastic would work just fine for us, too! Really like the furniture you bought. Will wait and see once the pool is finished to see what we need. I was hoping it would have been by Easter, but now it looks like it'll be a couple more weeks.

Yeah I completely understand. Thankfully your builder is on the ball I think. For our furniture we are mostly trying to keep to things the kids can eat ice cream/popcicles/etc... on without us stressing about it getting stained. The conversation set we splurged on and the kids won't be allowed to eat on it. We'll make them go down to the picnic table or the fire pit to enjoy their snacks.

Josh that all looks great! Love the colors AND they look comfy as well!

Give the kids the boxes to play in/with for a while. They will do a good job "killing" them! LOL

Kim

They love the boxes. My son loves stabbing them 100's of times with a screwdriver. I don't know how that would evolve into a career but I am hoping it counts for something! Believe me I have more than enough boxes for them.

You had a long and winding on your build. Glad to see things worked out in the end! It's all tied together nicely. Great job!

plat.

Thanks I really love your pool design so that means a lot coming from someone with good taste :)

Love the furniture! It looks like a comfy spot up there on your deck. How are you going to get that big grill down all those steps? Yikes! I am intrigued by the big green egg. Maybe I'll look at it next year when we (hopefully) do the kitchen build.

I need to know about your plastic Adirondack chairs. Are they from Lowes as well? Are there other colors available? Walmart has some white ones for under $20. I also have been looking at the recycled plastic/polywood ones. Cheapest I have found has been about $300 each. Ouch! At that rate it would take me a little while to get them. I have a decent patio conversation set we bought from Sears almost 10 yrs ago. We need new cushions and a few areas of the wicker need to be repaired. Minor stuff that isn't visible to anyone but me. I need some loungers and chairs for the firepit area and am hoping to get something that matches, or close to it.

I really love everything about how your yard turned out. Finally you can relax and enjoy it!

Yes I got them at Lowes. I tend to shop there the most because there is one pretty easy to get to from my house with minimal traffic lights (I think 3 or 4) and I don't like having to be in a lot of traffic when I have my truck loaded. Anyway they have green, teal, brown, white, and a brick red. We wanted to go red or green to match the existing furniture but then I saw they had some bigger version that were only available in brown or white so we went with brown. Two of the chairs are the big version and two are the normal version. The big version can hold up to 350 pounds and the others are only recommended to 250. I am 6'4" and am pretty trim when I am under 250 but I unfortunately am not and I always get nervous sitting in plastic chairs so I was excited to see the higher capacity ones.

I believe the large capacity ones were just under $30 and the normal capacity were just under $18.

I managed to get the grill down yesterday. For the egg I took it down in pieces but for the large grill I didn't want to take it apart so I actually took it through the house, out the front door, across the driveway, and down the grass on the house. Then I took all grills, grates, tank, etc... out of the grill to lighten it and my wife and I lifted it over the retaining wall near the fire pit. It wasn't that bad to move actually it was way easier than I thought it would be. Now I just have to clean it again. I had it covered but then the cover ripped and I had to get a new one so it sat uncovered for a couple weeks and is filthy now. I usually baby my weber grill so I don't like the condition it is in now. This is my 2nd grill. The last one lasted me 12 years but it was natural gas and this house doesn't have a stub out for it so I gave it to the buyers of our last house and had to go get a new one (darn!). I love them a ton. I'll eventually get a built in grill under that deck and hopefully a setup that holds the egg too. I'll probably see what weber has that is built in. They just are so nice to cook on and I love being able to run to Lowes or HD to get parts on the fly.

For the egg see if there is a local store that sells them in your area. BBQ Outfitters here in Austin has cooks on them from time to time so you can check it out in action and taste the food. Maybe there is a place that does that in Houston? I like supporting them because they have great service. I bought my weber there and always wondered why the eggs were so expensive but I never tried it. Then one fell into my lap for free and I figured it was good if BBQ Outfitters had them but I didn't really get it until I started using it. My poor weber gets used less. I use it more when I need to grill something quick on a week night but if it is a weekend and I have some time to start it and cook I always use the egg now. My father-in-law is mad I am not cooking on it for Easter but I just don't have time that day. Oh well....

Wow umm! It's really all come together beautifully! Love the seating areas and the furniture. I think we sat on that set when we went to Lowe's last week and it was super comfy. Congratulations!!

Thank you! Yes it is usually on display at all the Lowes. It is usually under a metal pergola. We liked them too. It was hard to justify having to pay that much more over the other sets they had but it was significantly nicer and since all my other stuff I got cheap or on clearance we decided to splurge on this one set. Plus I had budgeted quite a bit of money to get my sprinklers and lawn fixed until I got my PB to put it in the contract :)

Beautiful pool and beatifully set up! Love everything you've done with it. We haven't even picked a PB yet and are already looking at patio furnishings and you've given me some great ideas. :)

Thank you!

I actually think it is a great idea to know what kind of seating areas you want before you build. I think it helps to know the size of deck you'll need for each area so they can bid appropriately.

Just an update!

We absolutely love our pool. It is super nice and the kids have been using it constantly. We have had a few swim parties but the water is still too brisk for adults. I think we are hovering in the low 80's now for water temp. It is tolerable but still a bit cold. I can't wait for full summer now! I used to dread it but in Texas I think it is almost a necessity to have a pool now.

I still don't have closure with the pool builder. They still need to replace the stained pavers but at this point I don't know if that will happen. We had a couple leaks and they came out and fixed those pretty quick but I can't get any info about the pavers. I might go in one last time to ruffle their feathers but I don't have high hopes to get the stained pavers replaced. I might go talk to the paver yard and see if I can buy them myself and pay someone to come cut them to fit to get everything finished up. At this point it seems worth it. (I know the guy who originally did my paver work and I might hire him.)

Anyway other than that the pool is good. I am really enjoying it and I hope it lasts a long time. We consistently get positive comments about it. I think the paver work/walls really make it unique so people really like it when they come over. Not that I need anyone's approval but after what we went through it really came out awesome. Too bad the pool builder doesn't cooperate or I would probably be talking positive about them to everyone. I even have a couple neighbors who really love our pool and are getting them put in but my PB didn't get that business. If things were different they would have probably gotten 3 more pools just from me alone.
