Yet another Texas pool build!

On another note my girlfriend got fired from the PB. I went in yesterday to speak to the owner after work because of this and to know who would be overseeing my build now that the only person who ever looked after it was fired. The owner said to send him the list and he said he would make sure everything on my punch list is done before new years. We'll see.

It's like your grandfather telling the same stories over and over!

Umm I thought he had already quit.

I feel like I am a teenager dating. It is an emotional roller coaster. He quit, cleaned out his truck, and they begged him to stay so he did. Then 2 weeks later they fired him. I have no idea what the deal is.

Tree has been removed!

Here is the conversation:
Tree guy: Wetookthattreeoutrighttherehumhumhumhumwinchhumhumropepoppedthatsuckerrightout....humhumfencedamage...
Me: What did you say? Fence damage?
Tree guy: Wellwewereriphumbumbumtreeroothumhumcaughtithumhumsmallpiecebroke...I'llpay...youreapwhatyousew
Me: Ok I'll check it out when I get home

Turns out he clipped a small slat near my gate and it broke off. No biggie I have an extra slat in my yard already when I was fixing slats before the pool was built. He cracks me up but at least he is honest and he manages to get the job done. I just wish I had subtitles like that show Swamp People.

Sorry about your girlfriend! Did the owner not know he was the only decent employee he had? (Relatively speaking)

Love the tree guy! Good, honest hardworking folks are a rarity these days! What a relief that it was minor (especially after all your trials!) and that he was so forthright about it. That's the kind of people you want to do business with- even if you do need subtitles! Lol!!

Umm, do you know how many bags of beads were used in your pool? Believe it or not, my PB is trying to talk me out of them, saying that the shells, which are included, give more of a pop than the beads. Or maybe it's determined by the lineal sf?

Pool girlfriend-------begged to stay THEN fired????? I see some unemployment coming his way!

LOL at the tree guy....that is a stand up fella for sure! Did you let him know he was off the hook for the slat?

Kim

Yep I called and told him! He is definitely a stand up guy and is super friendly and talks quite a bit but I only understand maybe 20% of what he says. On the phone it is probably 10% understanding.

Yeah I think they really want to blame someone for all this mess besides the sales guy who was a fraud. He was the real reason all this happened. In the end I'll have a really nice pool but I am sad for my girlfriend because he really is a honest hard working guy but he came into a mess when he started...

I don't know the number of bags but I think they said 20% so 1 bag of beads for 4 bags of pebble. I think the beads look really nice. I think the difference would be like comparing a shirt with sparkles vs a shirt with rhinestones on it. Both pop but in different ways. I think the beads probably add some depth to the pool when there is 0 sun but the shells probably don't do much at that point. Plus I was concerned that the shells might fade over time because they are a natural product in chlorinated pool water. There is even a disclaimer on Pebble-Tec's website. Only you can decide what you want. Honestly get your hands on a Aquablue sample with blue luminous in it. That is the closest to my finish. I think the sample sells itself. Or even better see a pool with it if you can.

I'm going to read your whole thread today umm. I want to know how this guy became your girlfriend and the whole Jerry Springer build came to this.

After the last 2 pages, I'm just going to say.... I'm sorry, for now.

Marla! My PB said THE EXACT SAME THING!!
If we are able to go with the radiant fusion, it will already have the beads and my PB throws in the shells on every build. Win win.

Hahaha thanks! We have survived. It was a lot to deal with but I also see some others with gunite being ripped out or PB bailing etc.. and I am thankful. I just have to count my blessings. We will be able to swim in spring even if we don't have final inspection yet.

That is strange. I wonder if for some reason they don't like them similar to PB's discouraging SWG or trying to sell UV systems because they are better...

Only you can choose what you want. I know the beads are beautiful. I actually got to see them again in full sun today and even at 4 or 5 feet deep they catch the light. If the shells are better they must be breathtaking because the beads really are nice. I wonder how they look in the shade? The beads in the shade still give it a little pop too because they break up the pebble sheen a bit.

About the beads... Thanks Umm for all the info and your opinion! Since it's an option I think I'll wait to see how much sun we will have once the tree is down. Hubby told the PB the bead decision is above his pay grade, so it's mine alone to make!

I don't know what my PB's deal is with the beads but he has poo-poo'd many of the things I've brought up during our bidding process. Now that we have signed, his latest response to me is "we will do whatever you want" when I had readdressed the type of filter I wanted. If I can get beads AND shells, I'm going for it. We have full sun so it should be pretty!

I read this whole thread and all i have to say is... I'm glad it's almost over for you. You got one heck of an upgrade in pool surface. Thank God you got your glass beads. And I'm so glad I'm not your wife (maybe you should be  ) cuz I'd have that pool builder filleted open n wishing he were dead. Oh God... I can just see myself in the show room waiting on the first soul to walk out from behind the counter.

You spend all that money for complete incompetence.... you have been rewardsed with a nice deck even if it was redone a few times.... honestly, it needed to be. Just think of the fiasco if you weren't there riding them, what you'd be left with?! I'm afraid to even think about it!

Your foot. Glad it's healing but you have an infection. My dad is a diabetic and reading about your toe brought back memories of him losing his big toe to gang green caused by a callous? Then, this summer he stepped on a nail while working outside n didn't even know it. Guess who got gang green again? Nearly lost his other big toe and had a blood infection. He is finally healed up after several months off his feet and in a special boot that keeps tg e pressure off his big toe so it can heal. If i were you, I'd look into eating a high protein diet since protein promotes healing and you are basically healing from the inside out now.

The hose box looks like a plastic bucket. Here ya go, done. It looks like he said, I'm done with this pool, I'm done with you, I'm done with this bib. It looks horrible! I'm sure you'll fix it next summer.

I have one request though that I don't remember seeing and I do not want you doing it right now because of your foot!!!! When you feel better, can you post a pic from the bottom of your yard in the corner fence up toward the pool? I'd like to see the wall n how high it is. And what? You don't get final inspection til the rail is up?

nini, We will work on yours when you get some structure in place. I have to see it to know what I can do with it. My main goals are price (cheap), ease of access, and looks (hide as much as possible). Don't let me forget please.

Kim
