Yet another Texas pool build!

Yes and if I hadn't already bought mine months ago, I could have saved some money. Silly me.

That is a bummer! I am convinced now I am going to buy all outdoor stuff after the season is over. It is just too expensive for me to buy when everyone else is buying :) I had to buy my Weber grill at full price and that killed me. I had a natural gas one at the old house and when we moved the new house didn't have natural gas and I needed one right away. My old weber grill I got on deep discount for under $400 for a $900 grill. So it pays to look at the big box stores at the end of the year.

ummmmgood you did GREAT! THAT was a steal! I bet those will even hold up to the kids!

Kim

I think they will too! The funny thing almost all our furniture upstairs where the kids rule is from Ikea. I just don't want to spend that much and they break things from climbing etc... I actually think these chairs will hold up to the stand on and jump up and down test. Our patio furniture on our deck has that mesh stuff which I love because it weathers well but it doesn't hold up to the stand on jump and down test.

NO good furniture until they are tweens! That jump test will do in even the best furniture!

I teach Kindergarten. I have a couch in my reading center. We kid proofed it by taking the legs off AND adding two 2x4s to the bottom sticking out just a bit to keep it from tipping over backwards when the kids LAUNCH themselves onto it. You KNOW they cannot just sit down LOL

Hey just think of how good the kids will sleep after playing in the pool allday!

They are metal base with wood slats.

I am on an emotional roller coaster over here. The tile is done today. They did a very poor job in my eyes with the grout. I am irritated that it might mean they have to rip out stone because they were careless.

Here we go. I actually love how it turned out. I am just annoyed by the grout. I am overly OCD and have done my own tile work so I know how to do grout and this bugs me. I am not sure if it is fixable. We'll see what my girlfriend says tomorrow.

Here is the tile job:

Here is the grout. I picked grey grout to go with the blue tile and the pebble sheen. It really doesn't go if it is slathered all over my tan stacked stone.

I see your concern. It seems they would have put tan mortar there. But I really have no idea. I'm sure your pool builder will have a solution. I love the color scheme of the stacked stone and the blue tile though. It really pops!

My girlfriend called and said it wasn't good enough for him, it wasn't good enough for their company, and it isn't good enough for the customer so they'll fix it. He said they can remove it without removing the stone. That shall be interesting. There were a couple other small things that need to be fixed like there is an extra pipe in my pool from the old fill line location which is above the water line. They cut the tile around it instead of covering it so they'll have to fix that.

So far I am impressed by the pool builder. There will always be mistakes that drive me nuts but they are always receptive to fixing things.

Oh and I need to paint my slab!! It looks hideous.

Yay! Glad you checked into it. I'm afraid I e let too many things slide.

Honestly when there is water in the pool I probably won't care too much. I just notice things like tile work in malls etc... and I notice the imperfections. I would know it is there on my pool and others probably wouldn't notice but I have to live with it so I'll bring it up and see how reluctant they are to fix it or not and will cave if it is minor but difficult to fix. I already have ripped out the kitchen back splash on my home and redid it myself so it was up to my expectations. And yes my wife is a very patient person.

So an update. I had a mini-date with my girlfriend yesterday. He was out really scrutinizing the tile job. He isn't very happy with it and actually pointed out a bunch of cracked stones that shouldn't have been set on my bond beam. Plus there are 2 tiles he is planning on ripping out because he doesn't like how they were cut. He noticed problems I didn't even notice yet so I really really appreciate that. I also found out that they way under charged me for my belgard stuff. I guess I got charged for standard pavers not the belgard pavers. I guess for coping belgard costs 3x the price of the standard paver. Yey for me! I also understand they let the sales guy go yesterday for a lot of jobs that were under bid. So there are several pools in Austin that are getting screaming deals I guess. That might explain why the other bids coming back from my builder are way higher for less stuff than my bid.

Just for fun I have seen some of the other plans that my builder is doing. Let's just say my pool is the pauper of the bunch. One is 900k they are working on and the other one I saw yesterday has a really amazing pool house and bocce ball court.

900k for a pool?! I can't even fathom that, like can't wrap my mind around that. See if he will send you a rendering of what they are doing. Lol

Supposedly it is a house that faces Lake Travis. The house is on an extreme slope and the pool is on stilts. They had to pay 350k just for the foundation and planning to engineer the pool 45 feet out of the ground. Plus they said that he wanted an unobstructed view so they put in this special railing that is completely clear. He said it costs $120/ft and they needed 160ft of it. When they quoted it the guy said "that's reasonable". I guess the house it is attached to is over 5 million dollars and is under construction. I think if you do top rate finishes for everything stuff can escalate pretty quick. I wouldn't be surprised if the finish is glass tile instead of pebbletec.
