Yet another Texas pool build!

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly about the easement. If it's just your decking that extends into the easement that's really not a big deal. As long as the structure of the pool doesn't extend into the easement.

Yeah it is a problem in Austin. If the city thinks my decking is anywhere close to the easement they won't let me pass final inspection until we know it is out of the easement (survey) or we reduce the deck. My GF (construction manager) basically told me on another pool the inspector wanted proof and told him directly that if it was in the easement he better have a concrete saw ready to cut the deck. So they ended up having to hire a survey and are waiting for it to come back to determine if they have to cut the deck or not because that pool is on the hairy edge like mine.

The problem with my pool is the deck that is close to the easement is on top of a retaining wall so it would be a lot more work to fix later. They would have to completely disassemble the entire deck, pull all the retaining wall out, then poor new footings and rebuild. What a pain!

Here we go some more pictures...

Here are our selections for coping, deck, and retaining walls. The top two on the left are our deck material (for the paver section). They both are the same color selection but there are variations in the coloring to make the deck more interesting. The top right two are the retaining wall cap and wall stone. The bottom left is the coping. The stone yard has been great and let me take two of each to get some color variations so I can better choose. The first photo is dry and the second is wet. I am not sure how I'll seal to get the wet or dry look. I'll try that this weekend.

Next is our stacked stone for the raised bond beam that showed up today.

Here is another shot of the pool from the ground.

Some of the trenches they initially dug for the retaining walls. They have to dig them some more to make sure we are inside the easement. The easement would need the wall to not go past the blue line. The other trench is on the other side of the pool for the wall on that side.

My wife is getting a wee bit irritated on the scheduling. We were supposed to be tiled and have coping this week. Turns out they didn't order some of the stuff so now we are "Put back on the schedule" so I don't know when that will happen. I plan on calling my GF tomorrow to find out.

Ok tile is supposed to start Monday and the coping should arrive today or Monday. We originally wanted the pool done by July (we signed March 6th) and it seemed doable based on what they are telling us. That is totally not possible at this point but I am pretty sure as long as we have it by Sept 11th for my daughter's bday my wife will be ok. If it goes after that point my girlfriend will probably get a load of words from my wife. She has been understanding of my girlfriend so far but I think she'll give him the boot if the pool isn't done by Sept 11th.

Oh and for some good news yesterday in the heat of the day my 11 year old daughter was standing on the pavers in bear feet and they weren't too hot for her feet. I was really stressed about how hot the pavers would be vs. say coated concrete but I got the seal of approval yesterday. We did pick the lightest pavers we could to guarantee that they would be cool. I think the darker pavers get really HOT. Yesterday was almost 100 degrees here so I think that is pretty close to a real world use case.

Ummgood,

When you guys came over to look at my Pebble Sheen color, we didn't have the heart to tell you that the number of days your builder gives you and the actual time it takes hardly ever is the same. There have been 6 pools built on my street and the earliest one was done was mine which was over a month late.(And that was to swim, when everything was actually done was almost 2 months after that). In fact, my wife was having a surprise birthday party for me and some of my friends were flying in from around the country and she is convinced it was the only reason it got done when it did. She told the PB that and he really made an effort to get it done by then and he did. My promised 8 week pool build ended up taking over 5 months. That is why we laughed when you told us when your builder said it would be finished. We were hoping you finally found a builder who met their date! Good luck going forward, it should speed up now.

Yeah I knew it was aggressive. Plus all the rain has been a huge setback. I hope it goes much faster now. Today is supposed to be tile.

The daughter feeties test was the purrrrrfect one! CUTE!

Kim

Thanks! I am happy it wasn't burning her feet so that is a plus.

Ok we scored!!!

So I figured we wouldn't be getting much outdoor furniture this year because the season is almost over plus my kids destroy everything so I didn't want to spend much money. My wife and I managed to have the kids go with the grandparents this weekend so we had some us time. We decided to go to Ikea and see if they had any outdoor furniture. Well when we were getting ready to leave we went into their scratch and dent section and they had three fairly nice loungers with damaged boxes. All the parts were there and the loungers themselves didn't appear to have any damage so we bought them. I need to get cushions so I am waiting for Lowes to put their cushions on sale and get those then. We got the loungers for $59/each. They were originally $200 I think. They are black metal with brown wood slats. I don't think they look quite as nice as the loungers at Costco but they are almost as nice and the Costco ones are $300. I heard they get marked down to $200 but I can't beat $59/each.

Ok here are some photos. They have to live in our empty dining room until the pool is done so I haven't put them together. The box is pretty torn up on one and the other two are slightly torn. You can see where we pealed off the plastic on the slats to make sure the chair wasn't really torn up. We can find no damage on the chairs themselves and we made sure the parts were in the box. Oh and the original price was 169.00. So still a good deal.

Those are gonna look awesome!!!

Thanks I was pretty thrilled with the find. It is funny because a husband and his wife were debating on them. I wasn't sure that I wanted them at first because part of me wanted to wait until the pool was finished because we really have no concept right now of how much area we have for these types of things. Well after they started eyeing them and walked away I just grabbed the entire cart they were on and pushed them out of the sale area. I figured I would probably never get another deal like that so I just did an impulse buy.

One of the advantages to living in the south- when summer things so on sale, we still have 2+ months to use them!

Yep I love that! I think that is how we are going to get kids swimsuits is buy the closeouts a size bigger for the next year. My 11 year old is the only issue because we aren't sure if she is done growing or not. She probably has a couple more inches of height to go if she is like my wife. My wife topped out at 5' even in 5th grade and my daughter is going into 6th but isn't 5' yet. I am 6'3" so we don't know where she'll fall. I am pretty sure my son will be a monster because he is off the charts in height already at 3. People look at him funny because he is about the same height as a 5 year old but he still acts 3 which throws people off.

Yes! My pool will be done in a few weeks and I plan on hitting up the sales!

Let me know if you find something on sale at Lowes. I am guessing they start all on the same date. I really need some cushions.
