Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

Suz,

How are you doing with the rain? We just got a lot at 12 and it the storm isn't even close to us yet.

**** NOTE: I typed the below message on the 16th. I just noticed that it didn't post. I don't know if the computer gremlins played some trick on me, or if I simply forgot to hit send. Sorry if it looked like I didn't appreciate you checking.

Thanks so much for asking! Here, at my house in Cypress, we're doing fine. We've had steady rain almost all day and a brief period of thunder. You know, it all depends where those feeder bands go. From my radar, it looks like the folks just NW of Cypress are getting worse - those guys in The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Kingwood, etc.

On my app radar, we've just begun another feeder band, but we're getting just the southern edge as it turns. Just rain for the most part. It's hard to say, but that feeder is headed towards Austin. Right now, it looks like it will skirt just to the north of you (and my sister). But I heard that with all the moisture on land, these things could grow some as the afternoon continues. Matagorda and Victoria are getting nailed.

From the looks of things, this storm will eventually hit most people in Texas. We just have to see how it plays out.

Keep in touch and keep dry! Suz.

Not much going on.... Our PB called yesterday to say he was going to check with the landscaper on the deck schedule and also check with the plaster company. I never heard back from him, so I called a few minutes again. He talks so fast, I'm not sure I caught everything, but he said he'd call me later. I think that means he didn't get through to anyone.

In the meantime..... My son went to his usual Friday morning rounds of garage sales - his latest passion (UGH!). He did make a great find. A big float for the pool! The box looks like it had never been opened, and I'm sure the float had never been removed. There's no way any human could have folded it back to fit so perfectly into the box. It is old, I think, but the plastic doesn't seem brittle.

And the price???? $3.00. Good old garage sales! I will say this for my son - he has the best luck. Here's to floating someday soon! Suz.

It's a little dated looking from what we've seen in stores and online, but for 3 bucks??? Who cares?! We certainly don't.

Notice the lady's hair is bouffant style! Just kidding, but the float does look old-style. I probably won't use it unless the water is too cold. It looks like it keeps you out of the water. When it's hot out, I want to sink some into the water to keep cool. Again, for $3! Suz.

hows the pool coming Suz?

Thanks for asking! I don't have too much to report. I was excited a couple of days ago when our decking/landscaping guy thought he would get started today. But yesterday, they emailed that the start wouldn't be until Monday or Tuesday next week. That's ok. I hear in the voices of the service guys in this area how hard they are working to get caught up. We customers think it's hard on us, but the real pressure is on all the PB's, crews, landscapers, etc. I don't want to add to their stress.

I am happy that the deck will be completed before the plaster. From what others have said, it is best to do things in that order. And it will make it so much easier for me to walk to the pool to do maintenance if the deck is in.

And isn't it great the site is working beautifully?! And so fast! Take care. Suz.

Ascew: OMG! What a great way to start the day - LMAO! How in the world did you superimpose Lady Smurf onto OUR new float???? (if only I looked as good!) That's hysterical!

Our a/c went out yesterday, and it reached 100. Not a pleasant day yesterday. But.... we got more Freon to hold until the real a/c work begins, so all is better. My point being, it's great to wake up to such a wonderful belly laugh! Thanks so much!!! Suz. :laughblue: :smurf:

Just started reading your thread and it is exciting, incredible to see a pool being built and with such hardworking people. Trying to convince my sister to take the plunge and dig up her backyard, she has a wonderful space for it! Me I will stick with my AG until I win the lotto ;)

Can't wait to see it finished!

No problem! In fact I didn't see your response until today. The forum was so slow I didn't check many threads. Plus the pool builder had me so upset I didn't really want to even think about the pool until everything was better haha.

After all my expenses I think I'll be buying $3 floats too! My wife wants this one at Costco and it is I think $99 dollars. I don't see how a large floating foam pad can cost that much. It must be special foam made from the essence of some rare plant that only grows every 5 years in an area where there is a risk of death if you harvest the said plant. I'll probably get it for her but I won't like it when I check out.

As far as the thunderstorm we didn't get hardly any rain. It was really surprising. I thought for sure that we would have gotten at least several inches but I think when it was all said and done we might have gotten 1 or 2 inches max.

Oh and I feel for you on the AC. My washing machine died and it always seems when I stretch my finances something must break. I always say stuff happens in 3's to me. So far we are at roof, dishwasher, and now washing machine. Hopefully that is it. The new washing machine gets delivered on Saturday.

You are too funny! You must be right about the rare plant materials for floats! But if it costs more, it must be better, right?!!!! Ha ha ha! (no, I don't generally subscribe to that way of thinking)

Well, the a/c isn't holding. We're lucky in that we have 2 units, so I'll move upstairs to my son's domain. It's a little scary to go up there, so it just depends on how hot it gets downstairs whether or not I brave it!!! So, this is the third in a row of a/c breakdowns - am I finished for a while, now???

BTW - I shared with my son your snake post from the other thread. He mows a lot of neighbors' yards, so I knew he would relate. He cracked up! The first thing he said was he sure wished he could have seen it! Would you please get someone to video you the next time you use the weed eater on a snake???? I swear, it would go viral on YouTube!!!! Take care. Suz.

I have to say, I am surprised no one has mentioned the fruity tropical adult beverage in Miss Smurfette's hand, with the straw perfectly placed for afternoon pool lounging summer bliss. I thought that was the best little detail. ;)

Ascew: I am so sorry! I've been preoccupied with the a/c. My brain just doesn't function as welll unless it's running on cool.

Yes, that detail makes it perfect! Did you add that separately? Well, of course you did! Smurfette wouldn't be allowed to have a fruity tropical adult beverage. Only Suzy Smurfette is old enough for adult beverages! BTW - you were spot on. Fruity tropical drinks are Suzy Smurfette's favorite!

I'm afraid no one noticed the drink because it looked completely natural. You are just too clever and skilled in your craft! (seriously) How you did that with the glass and get the straw so perfectly placed is beyond me.

And to do it using excel!! I wondered why the excel-looking grid was in the background. I didn't ponder on that but a second, because I had no idea how excel could be used that way. I love excel but I'm only an amateur. You, my friend, are a wizard.

Now for a favor.... Can you post that on my Smurf Blue thread? People who are getting a chuckle out of the whole Smurf saga HAVE to see this!! They wouldn't know to go to my build thread for additional Smurf episodes. And Bmore is the creator of the series - he MUST see this!!

Thanks so much for your contribution to the Smurf series.
Suz.

It is actually quite simple.
First use the snipping tool from windows menu to grab any image, the float, on my screen. Then paste into excel, then use the remove background function from the format picture menu. Use the snipping tool again to grab an image of Smurfette, paste to excel, remove that background, drag her over the float, and rotate the image till it is where you want it. Repeat with the drink. Use the snipping tool again, to grab the combined image, save it as a file in my "pictures" folder, and upload it to photo bucket.

And I will of course add it to the Smurf Blue thread.
