I'll start with I'm new to pool owning. I have a vari speed Hayward PowerFlo Matrix Pump with a Hayward Sand filter that I have glass media in instead of sand due to all my research saying glass was better. We put the pull up last fall and filled it. I covered it with just a leave catcher over the fall (have learned my lesson) When I opened it this spring it of course was green and I could NOT get my levels correct. At first I will admit I was using chemicals like Floc and Algaecide treatment BEFORE I found this lovely site and community. I learned I needed to do the slam method, but before starting I needed to get my CYA up which I did. I'm on day 3 of the slam method, using 7.5% bleach (I am using the Pool Math app to help which I also learned here) It has improved slightly and I know that sand filters apparently take the longest to do the slam method. This is a picture of my FC test, due to it being ALOT darker than what it goes to I have just been putting 10ppm in the FC calculation and my current CYA is 60 so it has been telling me to add 2.8 jugs of 7.5% Bleach. I have been doing this 3 times a day. As I have stated it has improved slightly. I would say I went from maybe only being able to see 1ft under the water to now 2ft. My question is 1. Due to the color being off the charts and my basically guessing am I using the right amount of bleach? 2. Just keep doing what I am doing? 3. Can I also hook up a different pump (like a sump pump) to filter through a bucket that has cotton balls or something in it with holes back into the pool to help? I add this question as when I started the slam method I also learned about filter socks in the slimmer and have had to change this like 5-6 times daily due to how disgustingly gross they are getting. Thank you in advance!
