Pentair Pool Light Problems

I have the Y-764889 Pool Light. It's from 2007 or so, and not working.

The apparent alternative is the Pentair Architectural Series pool light. Outrageously expensive, so I'm hoping I might save that slight amount if I can find out the proper cord length to buy, 50' or 100'.

What was the maximum cord length you could get for the Y-764889 light? I tried to ask Pentair, and they possibly said it came in 30-foot and 50-foot lengths that she could find. So not 100% confidence in that answer. Yes, I'll have 100% confidence in the Troublefree Pool answer. The real problem also is that I'd like to disconnect the wiring, and pull it through, with a string of course so I can get the next one through, and measure it exactly, but I can't see where the wiring from the light goes to. I know, somewhat ridiculous but, where I'd think it would be, the wire sheathing is black, but at the light it is orange.

Appreciate any help.

There is a junction box somewhere, often under the diving board. If no diving board, maybe it's now covered by a bush or large plant nearby. it will be a rectangle or square box with a couple small conduits.

Hang tight for specs about the light cord.

Usually, a light with an orange cord is a 12V light. You need to check that before purchasing a new light. The Architectural Series lights are equivalent in size to the standard Pentair AmeriLite. So, basically any light that will fit the Pentair niche will work, just get the correct voltage light.

Many thanks! Yes I did look further, and there is much more information from the light.
Pentair Pool Light
From what I can see, it is definitely 12V, and has a 50' cord. It is the 600103 series, 70 Watts, 12 Volts, Bulb 600076.
So the logical question is, can just the bulb be replaced?
I'm still looking for the cord, I'll be opening up the Intermatic Box at some point soon. And, as a follow-up, is it possible that the Intermatic Box has gone out and the light is still good?
Thanks for any insight and help.

Does the light have two different labels for watts and bulb type?

The 600076 bulb might be available, but it looks expensive.

Are you showing a Pool Light and a Spa Light?

Do you want to replace both?

Check voltage at the transformer output to the lights.

OK, yes the 45 watts 12 volt is from the spa light photo.

But tragically, it looks like the bulb kit is maybe $200 less than an entirely new light, and it is my understanding that the new lights are much better than the old ones.

IntelliBrite® Spa LED Light models
The two models of IntelliBrite® Spa LED light are:
IntelliBrite® Spa LED Light, 120 VAC, with integrated 12 VAC transformer, 50 ft. cord length* (P/N 640051)
IntelliBrite® Spa LED Light, 12 VAC, (requires a 12 VAC 60 Hz [50 Hz where applicable] isolating safety transformer),
50 ft. cord length* (P/N 640054) — (*) cord lengths vary from 30 ft. to 100 ft.

OK, thanks for that Owner's Manual! It looks like it has some good information in it.

For the pool light though, is the opinion to try to get a new 602152 light? It seems the reputation for these old lights are very poor.

Am I correct too, if you're replacing the entire assembly the water level should be below the light? Otherwise I'd be thinking the conduit is ending up filled with water.

The junction box should be where the light cords connect with the 12 volt power.

Probably

Yellow = Transformer output.

Red = Pool Light cord.

Orange = Spa Light Cord.

There are two black output wires that will be 12 volts AC, 13 volts AC or 14 volts AC depending on the input wiring.

The white goes to neutral.

The hot wire goes to black, blue or yellow depending on what output voltage you want.

Hot to primary black = 12 volt output on secondary.

Hot to primary yellow = 13 volt output on secondary.

Hot to primary blue = 14 volt output on secondary.

The conduit is usually filled with water.

No need to lower the pool water.

It looks like these are the choices.

Note that only the models starting with "EC" (E-Commerce) are available online and the others are only available through authorized dealers.

I'm appreciating all the help.

Yes, that's the chart I've been looking at, so 602152 would be for the pool light. But, what's causing concern, it says on the original the cord is 50', but I'm measuring very close to 50' from that junction box to the light, and the light has the extra wire also, so at 50' of cord, it seems there's just a few inches to spare. Once again, if I could pull the original cord out, I'd feel better knowing the true exact necessary length. But that's the other problem.

As in the #13 posting by JamesW, the photo of the junction box, the orange, red, and yellow lines. This is exactly what I'd think too. Except, the cord is orange at the light, and I'm seeing black at the box.

#942 is a close-up for the connection to the transformer
#937 is a close-up of the wiring coming to the junction box from the #13 posting photo red line
#928 is a close-up of the wiring coming to the junction box from the #13 posting yellow line
#914 is showing the three wiring openings at the junction box

I am not sure what you have going on.

Can you find any other junction boxes anywhere?

If you pull on the cords from either end, can you see the opposite end moving to verify?

I've been looking for another junction box too.

I'm thinking I can pull on the spa light cord, which is within a few feet of this junction box. Apparently that cord was originally 50', but they only needed may 15'.

If I have somebody stand with the light, and hold it up to give some slack, I guess I can try pulling on the black cord in the center conduit. What I had been hoping to do was test the wire for electricity, somehow electricians can do this. And of course, if the light worked I'd be able to easily see, but then again I wouldn't be doing any of this.

The two black wires on the right side should connect to two wires going to the junction box.

Pull lightly to confirm the wires.

You should get about 12 to 14 volts AC.

Are both lights working or not working?
