I left my pool cover on for 3 days & opened it to a green mess on July 28th. When first tested phosphate was 1,710ppb ( I have a 15,000 gallon in ground pool). It was recommended to use a phosphate remover..wait 3 days, backwash, rinse & add 6 bags of shock, brush walls & floors. It got slightly better, where we could see low end of pool. Then it continued to get worse. While phosphate levels are at 208 now ( as of 08/26 ) & per store testing all other levels are within range (except CAcid has been above 140 since the start of this)..the last step taken was 4 bags of shock at night & Terminator Algaecide in the morning. This is 36 hours later...and nothing. I am starting to panic, because our season almost over & we will need to close. Everything I read says not to close a green pool. .I would just drain the pool by 70%...but that seems a poor idea at the end of the season. HELP My parents had this house /pool for 40 years and this never happened...I have been in charge since 2018....first incident. Please note we did have sand filter repaired & new "glass" sand added. Thank you in advance. Total Chlorine level is 18.12ppm ( free chlorine same)

So problem #1 is the pool store visits. You need a testing method of your own for us to advise. Usually phosphates are a non issue but pool stores love it. Here's a link to the recommended test kit

Good morning! You do need to try and clear that green before closing. We can help. As noted above, it all starts with proper water testing. That's is absolutely critical and you won't get that from the local pool store or test strips. Having a proper test kit is key to the process, and one of the few remaining things we as homeowners can still do without some "expert" tech visit $$$.
I recommend the TF-100/Series products, but a Taylor K-2006C kit will work as well. With one of those providing accurate numbers, we can most definitely help you. If you are worried about getting a kit as the season ends, don't. It will still be good for next season.

I completed the " signature". I have the Taylor 2006 in my Amazon basket..I just want to make sure it's the best for my situation. On my other thread ( until I do proper testing). Draining the pool probably my only resort. I have a vinyl pool ..so would only be able to take it down so far. I just hate to spend the $$ for the water at seasons end & want to get an idea of an option to wait until spring? It appears to be getting less green & more cloudy. I'm still with some hope. If you decide on the Taylor K-2006 - be sure to get the K-2006C
The "C" comes with 2oz bottles instead of the dinky 0.75oz bottles in the K-2006
Additionally, Amazon is hit or miss on testkits - the kits sit on the shelf for months and the reagents can be near or past expiration dates
