Hello @ajw22 and @JamesW
Sorry to re-open an old thread, but I recently moved into a new house with older equipment. I'm very new to caring for pools, but this website has been invaluable. I currently have the spillover running always running, but I'd like to have it set up to have the spillover run only twice a day (@ajw22 how's that working out?)
Ive attached photos of my equipment, can you please tell me if my old equipment has the capability as-is to automate a spillover mode? And, if so, how would this be accomplished?
@ajw22 I may also have
to do something about the 4 button switch in the spa.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

What is connected to AUX1, AUX2 and AUX3?

You need to free up AUX3 to turn on spillover mode.

Your indoor panel says RS8. Try and enter a schedule for AUX4 and see if it allows it.

From the manual (page 36), after doing this, schedule the time you want :
DIP #3 ON- AUX 3 Controls Spa Spillover
(Operates with Pool/Spa Combination)

Turn this switch ON, and when the AUX 3 button
on the AquaLink RS Control Panel (or Spa Side
Switch) is pressed, the Return Valve Actuator will
rotate to spa circulation. Because the Intake Valve
Actuator does not rotate, the spa will fill with water
and overflow into the pool.
Note Leave AUX 3 relay socket empty.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly @1poolman1 and @ajw22

To answer your questions:
AUX1 = FALLS, AUX 2 = SPA JETS, AUX 3 POOL LIGHT
(Pool light is also controlled by "button 2" on the Spa's 4 button panel)
I was able to enter a schedule for AUX4 (=spa light) and confirmed that it worked.
I understand that I need to free up AUX 3, but I'm not sure how to accomplish that. Can you help with that given the pictures I've uploaded? Or would you rather me upload new photos?

Thanks in advance.

Aqualink Installation Manual is at https://cdn.fluidrausa.com/-/media/...6594.pdf?rev=fa167047bf1644a093de0dbd96d6ff54

  • Power down the Aqualink
  • Move the plug that is in the AUX 3 socket to the AUX 7 socket.
  • Power up the Aqualink
  • Press AUX7 and see that the light turns on and off
  • Power down the Aqualink
  • Turn Dip Switch #3 on.
  • Power up the Aqualink
  • Pressing AUX3 should display SPILLOVER and turn the return valve to the SPA
  • You can now schedule AUX3 for twice a day in the morning and early afternoon to run for about 15 minutes to refresh your spa.

Your indoor panel says you have an RS8. To confirm, go to the outside panel and press one of the buttons marked Aux 7 or Aux 8. You could remove the screws that hold the board in place and read the number on the chip, but this is easier.
If the LED above the button lights, you have an RS8 and two available relay sockets.
If you look at the first picture, just below the circuit board you will see 6 small, red plugs that go to the actual relays. Remove the one from the Aux3 socket, leave it blank, and install in Aux 6 or 7, which are empty. Reprogram the system so that the aux you use (6 or 7) is now for the light and rename it in the name menu. You will have to associate the new aux in the spa-side remote menu as well. All that is in the manual attached earlier.
Your RS8 has the ability to control 7 auxiliaries, but not the relays, which many builders will not install if there is no immediate need.

@ajw22 and @1poolman1 it worked!!!! Thank you very much!
I moved AUX 3 (formerly Pool Light) to AUX 6, and now the thing says SPILLOVER!
Thank you both so much.
Now I just have to figure out how to associate the new aux in the spa-side remote menu. I tried using CTRL F in the manual but came up empty handed.

You doing this on your All Button Control panel?

Below gets you to where you assign an AUX to each of your spa control buttons.

It is either SPA Switch or SPA Link depending which control you have.

Yes, I most certainly will. I have one more question. I was able to program the SPILLOVER to start at 6:15AM and stop at 6:30AM, but how do I program it to go again later in the same day?

Hello again @ajw22 and @1poolman1 !
It seems the "J15" or "return" output is no longer sending signal to the actuator to initiate the spillover setting.
I can switch the toggle on the actuator and the actuator will move the valve.
When I put the aqualink into spa mode, the suction side actuator functions as normal, but the return actuator does nothing. [see attached photo] I also switched the "J14/intake" and "J15/Return" and put the aqualink into "Spa Mode" and when I do this the return valve moves but not the suction valve.
Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
Thank you in advance!

I have this. but admittedly have never used it.

However, if you tell me what setting to turn the dial to and where to place the red and black leads i can tell you what i see.

You take the risk of further damaging the system if you short contacts together while sticking the probes in things.

Actuator_Valve_Socket_Wires.png

You should see 24V AC between the black and red pins or between the white and red pins depending on if you are in POOL mode or SPA mode.

Test if you have voltage on each combination black/red or white/red when in one of the modes.

On “RETURN” :

In SPA FILL MODE
Red and black: 27
Red and white: 3.9

In POOL MODE
red and black: 27
Red and white: 3.9
