Heater cool down periods - what happens when the power gets cut?

You are always supposed to shut your heater off about 5-10 minutes before your pump so that the heater has a chance to cool down while the water is still circulating and you don't have extremely hot water in the heat exchanger when the water isn't moving.

What happens when you have an unexpected power outage that occurs when your heater is on? What do people do when they live in areas where power outages happen fairly frequently?

Nothing.

Modern heaters can deal with an occasional hot shutdown. Be kind to your heater when you can.

New heaters do not retain anywhere near the amount of heat when shut off that older ones do/did when the recommendation was first made. Wouldn't be a problem. Best not to make a habit of it.
