Hayward Pool Heater

Hi there - have a fairly new hayward pool heater - roughly 2 years old. It usually takes between 2-4 tries to ignite the pool and sometimes errors out with the 1F code after 10 tries. We typically smell gas during the ignite period while it's trying to ignite. Thinking it's either an igniter that's going out or maybe the gas line is too small? Looking for other thoughts or items to try to fix this?

What size heater? What size gas line? How far is the gas line run from the source (meter or tank)? What size gas meter? Natural gas or propane? Picture would help.
