Am replacing seals on a Pentair Whisperflo (2017) and everything was coming apart nicely -- no corrosion etc. I am having a hard time getting the old diffuser-side seal dislodged from the diffuser. I know I need to be careful not to scratch/ding the hard plastic diffuser side so am gently trying to pry the seal out going around with a flat head screwdriver, but it doesn't seem to be budging. Unlike the other half of the seal, I don't think it can be tapped out from the other side. Any suggestions? Thanks! Kate

The diffuser has an oring. The shaft seal has 2 parts one siliconed into the seal plate and the other in the impeller. I’m assuming you are talking about the shaft seal part in the impeller. You should be replacing the shaft seal with a new one, it’s not worth trying to salvage.

Diffuser has an O ring on the front, no seal. Are you talking about the shaft seal in the sealplate? The sealplate will have to be removed from the motor and then the metal portion can be tapped on from the back. Are you talking about the portion of the seal in the impeller?
There is usually just enough of the ceramic to get a small hold with a pliers. Then the rubber cup can be removed.
Its possible that, if the pump ran dry for long, the seal has melted into the impeller.
Then there will be nothing to grab with a pliers as the seal will have been pushed into the impeller. If so, you'll need a new impeller as well as seal. The sides of the impeller cup that the seal presses into should be very straight and the opening square, not flared. Notice the picture. If yours are, its new impeller time, sorry.
