New to Pools. Very High CYA

The last two times I lowered my pool with MA to a OH of 7.2 or 7.3 within 3 days it heads up to 7.6, and it stays at 7.6 or 7.7 for two weeks, does that mean I should only lower my PH to 7.6?

So even 7.8 is not a problem?
Nope. Be on the lookout for it to go further, but if that takes 2 weeks, woohoo.

If you dose a few days early or a few days late, you're still good. It takes being out of range for a much longer times for any issues to arise. Alot of times it comes down to a guess due to the color matching. Do the best you can and you'll be right more often than not.

Those black lines in your grout appear to be black algae. Hard to get rid of. I would start a campaign to get rid of it and then address your other algae issues when the black algae is gone........the treatments are different.

How do I get rid of the black algae if it's way above the water line.

Here’s some good info

I read it, hence my question, what to do if the black algae is above the water line? So I just scrub with a trichlor puck, or should I raise my water level real high

  • Put some bleach in a spray bottle.
  • Get a small scrub brush
  • Put on safety glasses
  • Get in the pool
  • Splash water on the algae
  • Scrub with brush
  • Spray with bleach
  • Do the entire waterline area
  • Scrub again
  • Splash with water
  • Spray with bleach
  • Come back tomorrow and do it again
  • Repeat as necessary
Use care NOT to spray bleach on yourself or your clothing.
You should be the only one in the pool during this operation.

After each application, empty the spray bottle into the pool and thoroughly rinse the bottle and pump sprayer with pool water as the bleach will eventually deteriorate the rubber parts of the sprayer.

Or use a spray bottle that is designed to hold chlorine. I have an old mold remover spray bottle that I keep refilling with bleach. Not sure about all the magic ingredients of the original product (mainly bleach), but I know what I use for refilling the bottle (just bleach).
