Green hair?

Is the hair blonde?

Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) might get it out.

Consult with a hair specialist to see if using vitamin C is a good idea.

Ingredients: Glucose, Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Betaine, Panthenol.
Yes, they both have blonde hair. Thanks for the link!

They did test the cooper level at the pool store and it was 0.
The tests are very unreliable.

Can you pull the filter cartridges and show them before cleaning?

Turquoise color is copper.

Had some issues with the pump not running reliably so the builder closed it due to the temps and then opened it a couple weeks ago to work on the pump which has been running perfectly for a couple weeks now.

Over the winter I know the builder threw some pucks of chlorine in but that would have been early on and nothing was done to it from Nov- end of March.
Did they add copper algaecide during the close or during any winter visit?

Do they sell copper algaecide?

I am 99.9% sure they added copper algaecide.

There's pretty much only one reason that blonde hair turns green and that is from copper.

If they didn't add copper algaecide, then maybe the heater's heat exchanger is dissolving due to bad chemistry.

They probably added copper algaecide.

Thanks so much for the information. I have so much to learn and really appreciate it! I’ll check the filters tomorrow and also ask the builder again about he cooper algaecide. Obviously, it will wash out and not a huge deal just curious if it’s something I was doing wrong with the water. Thanks again!

Your logs only go back to 7 days ago-
did you have someone close/open your pool that may have used algaecides or sequestrants?
Your cc’s were very high - have you added anything to lower them?
Was this pool on a Trichlor diet before you started using a swg?
Do you regularly keep your ph in the low 7’s?
Do you have any stains or have you done any stain treatments recently?
Missed a couple of these questions…PH has been moving around quite a bit. It was 7.7 yesterday and now 7.2 today. I don’t mean to keep it that low. Just getting started and trying to get everything balanced. And no stains, haven’t used any stain treatments.

I don't think so.

It happens and it's not a big deal.

No one is getting sued over some green hair.

It will wash out.

Kids today love colored hair like green, blue, red etc.
Yes sir I know, But this one sounded a little fishy.

They can sue for anything. Pink hair, blond hair, worse hair, better hair. The pool builder closed and opened the pool? And now someones hair is green? Pool builders don't close pools like that . And when/if they do because the same people who built the pool services it, and reopen the pool a few months later! They normally don't turn peoples hair green with a .0 copper test result.

What I'm I missing here? Pool builder, green hair, and keeping logs =?

Is your pool the only one they have been in?
Yep, only one since Jan when we were on vacation, but they both have highlighted blond hair so if it’s not from algaecide, (I’ll check filters tomorrow) then it must just be something with their hair being colored. I am not worried about it, was just trying to learn more and find out if it was anything I was doing wrong with the chemicals. 😊

The recent cya addition likely had some effect on your ph since it is an acid.

Just covering all the bases 👍🏻

I am sorry, I didn’t mean for it to sound fishy. I am brand new at this and thought this seemed like a good place to learn. So far, everyone has been really helpful and I’ve learned a lot.
Our pool builder was excellent, he closed the pool for us because he was still trying to get the pump to work right and he was worried about it getting too cold and having it not run correctly so he helped us out. He then reopened it this spring so he could work on the pump. As far as my logs just starting, it’s because I just found this site and started working on getting the numbers in check. I am not worried about the green hair, just wondered if I was doing something wrong. And I absolutely can’t imagine who or why I would sue for green hair…goodness.

Btw- With your higher ta the ph will likely rise on it’s own so there’s no need for action.
Okay, that’s good to know. I was planning to check it again tomorrow, and also check the cya level since I added. I think I am starting to get the hang of this. 😊 Would you leave the TA alone for now? With the lower ph I let the fountain run all day, hoping that might bring it down. (Hope I read that right)

The only way to lower ta is with acid (this also lowers ph)
The aeration from the fountain will raise ph without increasing ta so you can then lower them both again with acid whilst keeping ph in the 7’s. I hope that was clear as mud lol 😂
