Hi,
We bought a home with an inground pool that has a Jandy DE filter, Jandy pump and Jandy pool heater. The wall mounted control panel yesterday
said something like low temp/low chlorine which Jandy said means the water was below the 50 degree threshold for creating chorine. I raised the
heater to 53 degrees thinking the chlorine production would start but now the wall unit reads *** 0 Deg-C ***

I looked in the manual, that error isn't listed. What does it mean?

Welcome to TFP.

I raised the heater to 53 degrees...

Jandy gives the following guidance in the JXI heater manual:

  • Do not operate the heater if the water temperature is below 40 °F (4°C)
  • Short term operation of heater when temps are below 40F can continue but continuous flow must be maintained.
  • Prolonged operation with water below 50F can seriously damage the heater and is not covered by warranty.
  • It is recommended that vent runs over 18 feet be insulated to reduce condensation and use a condensate trap in the vent run close to the heater, especially in cold climate installations.
  • If the heater is to be operated in below freezing conditions it should be installed in a protected outdoor shelter.

I spoke with Jandy on Thursday, before the current error displayed, to get advice on the heater and the tech agent said limited operation of the heater for the unseasonably cold
weather we're having just to ensure there isn't any freezing would be okay. As soon as the weather returns to the norm for the area, I can turn it off. My main concern was relying on
the pump alone to prevent freezing only to lose power (Duke Energy warned high winds could down lines) and it takes a few hours to be restored. The water being warmer than freezing
could buy the time needed.

Any idea on the error/message I have?

Nope, never seen it before.
Thanks. In case you might have been wondering, we didn't close the pool for the winter because the pool company said in NC, with mild winters, not everyone closes it.
They said it wouldn't be necessary and I could get away with keeping the pump going at low rpm. Of course, that statement didn't reflect 8 degree nighttime lows, which is
about 25 degrees colder than normal.

Now you are seeing where some in NC do close their pools to not deal with the not normal conditions that occur. Pool equipment is not made to operate in cold conditions.

I am in Atlanta and have seen many winters where it may drop below freezing for maybe a half day.
I watch the weather and when I saw the forcast I closed mine.
Hopefully once things warm up everything will start working again for you.

So, just an update. The heater ran for those few days and I've since turned it off. The pump ran at 2800RPM and nothing froze over. I noticed the basket for the
salt generator getting clogged so I cleaned it and the DE. Pressures are healthy, no leaks and the display is back to showing what is familiar, either stating it is in standby
or that it is active. Thanks to everyone that replied.
